I suggested to my manger we do not charge shipping on this woman's order. She thought that a good idea, but said if the "big boss" (there's too many damn bosses here) had all ready told me to charge shipping, she wasn't going to ask otherwise. wtf? My superior wouldn't ask...

So when I saw the "big boss" I asked him. I told him I had made the suggestion to my manager, but she didn't want to ask him. I also mentioned I couldn't believe she wouldn't and she should really grow a pair.

He said the company would take care of the shipping cost.

My job is exactly like this. I am one of two full-time employees who is not under contract with SMG or in a Director position. The other is the son of my primary boss, whom I share an office with. Every Operations Supervisor who is under contract is always avoiding direct confrontation with the Director of Operations and never wants to ask him a question. I personally answer to about four people due to the fact I am essentially an office coordinator who handles alot of the purchasing/supply demands for our operations department.
On the plus side, I spent most of the day organizing my office and cleaning out the desk of a former supervisor, so that a new guy could come in next week. I also only have one our of work left.

You understand! My supervisor continually wimps out. I'm convinced I'm more qualified, but since it's a job I don't plan on keeping for too long, I'd rather just be paid to listen to my iPod all day. And, like, take care of customers, I guess.

Upping one's post count.

I figured I title the thread that since I wasn't actually talking about music and it would probably become a random thread anyway.

All right, so I've got another one.

An older woman I've been talking with for the last two weeks who has been trying to decide if she really wants to spend a god awful amount of money on wooden bowls she's wanted her "whole, entire life".

She calls today and says "Stacey, guess who this is...!" "... Bonnie?" "Yes! Hello sweetheart, how are you?"

She told me she was looking at our website and saw we were running a sale and wondered if it pertained to the items she wanted. I told her I was sorry, but it did not and she goes on and on about not knowing what to do now and how she'd have to ask her husband and she asked if there was any way she could get the special regardless. I told her the "big boss" was out of town, but I could possibly ask him on Monday for her. I had actually all ready talked to him about this and he had said no, but I was figuring I'd ask him again, because this woman had been hemming and hawing for weeks by this point.

Anyway, after we hung up I decided to just give her the discount. It was really a "screw it" moment. So I called her back and said I had called my boss even though I wasn't supposed to contact him on his cell phone and even though her items were not included in the sale, he was going to give her the discount anyway. She was so ecstatic, she went on a ten minute Stacey praise-a-thon. Literally, she was blessing me. I mean, she was getting the discount, but I completely lied to her. Does this mean I'm going to hell?

Also, for some reason, she told me how much of a "hunk" Taylor Hicks from American Idol was.

That was very long and probably uninteresting.

I didn't do a very good job in retelling the story as I left out most of what she was saying to me, which was, well, the funny part.

She asked if I had any sisters. I told her I didn't, but had two younger brothers. Then she told me about someone on American Idol who had four brothers and a girl she used to work with who had six sisters. She talked about how so many families have too many children of the same sex and she just prayed that things would even out for people continuing to have several children.

I have to remember this trick - always tell stories in installments. Very Dickensian of you.

calling that installments is quite generous. pretty much the climax as belated epilogue.
