After the divorce yesterday, I had lunch with swiateck and some of my local friends at Magnolia Cafe, then spent the afternoon kinda quietly. In the early evening, we headed down to one of my favorite session drinking bars, Casino El Camino, on 6th street. All I know is that I started off with a Power's Irish Whisky and a PBR, and I spoiled Chad with a Boddington's.

We proceeded to insinuate ourselves at a girl's table on the back patio, her friends were on the way, but there was room for us to sit and chat. Chat, drink, and smoke we did, with Colin playing drunk name games and memorizing the names of strangers. Beer, liquor - pain inducing substances - all continued to flow.

After a little while shiv showed up, drinking the champagne of beers, Miller High Life. We talked about youth & young manhood in Massachusetts (he didn't know that I had grown up near Boston). We talked about music (some). We explained to the half-dozen new acquaintances we were drinking with that we were internet friends, and they still managed not to shun us. I found out that the girl whose table we crashed grew up in Sweetwater, Texas with my cousin Barry. I found out that the hard-ass belligerent tattooed drunk had done his undergraduate work in Mechanical Engineering at Rice University, which made his tough guy game awesomely funny, and we talked about West Texas and New Mexico. Did I mention that we drank? We drank. I felt a thigh. I got some numbers. We held forth. We drunk dialed Aural Fixation and SpontaneousPoet, but not pumachik (sorry, dri, we'll rectify that omission asap).

After spending 6 or 7 hours at Casino El Camino, and holding down the table until all of the folks we had just met took off, we decided we had had enough of this bar, and would move down to the next. By this point in the evening, my ability to help Chad's chair up and down stairs and curbs was becoming greatly compromised, and people managed to buffer us whenever I got really sloppy in my assistance. We went to the Jackalope, another one of my favorite drinking bars, where the dj was spinning 80s dance and was thoroughly unimpressed by any of shiv, swiateck, or chuck d's drunken suggestions.

Almost immediately after I walked up to the bar to get two Belhaven Cream Ales for me and Swiateck, I met Busdriver, who will be playing sxsw Thursday night, at a show I might be tempted to see. Right on. I continued drinking, we continued talking, SpontaneousPoet called us back, and we had a fabulous time. What happened thereafter is a bit hazy. I should check my digital camera for more photographic evidence.

Finally, we walked Chad back to his car, I walked Jon back to his car, and I made a call and my ride showed up.

I woke up at noon. Tonight jagged gets here. Time to step it up another level.

I need to put some food on top of this mild drunk I still have going on.

I'll postpix when I have a chance to upload them, right now I need to monger a little bit.

That sounds like a perfect stop-gap until Phase II - The Deadening.

And yeah, a good time by the sounds of things. I love those nights.

i don't think you understand what kind of trouble you'd be getting yourself into.

I've spent far too many years avoiding trouble. I am ready for trouble.

With a capital T, and that rhymes with P, and that stands for "pool".

I'm standing in line right now at the San Antonio Zoo (full crowd scene at the train line) wistfully dreaming of the mongerdom that awaits me on Friday...

Outside of one passable photo, today's zoo trip was an unmitigated disaster. One cranky kid and one perpetually dissatisfied. I need beer...STAT!
