Thanks to all for the congratulations and everything.

For some reason I thought it was already known on this board, but her mom hates me. It may have been different if we started dating now, but at the time her mom didn't want her to get involved in any kind of long term relationship, so she made it virtually impossible to see each other. Over summer break (two years ago now) we were allowed to see each other once a week...no expections. My mom even talked to her once to see if she could change it to twice a week, but she didn't change her mind. We told her parents that we broke up and for the past year and a half they haven't known anything. Whenever we hang out she tells them she's going out with other people and my parents are perfectly fine with it. She comes over here all the time.

So to sum this up, I think her mom would commit homicide if she knew we were both going to Pratt (I'm hopeful, but first she's got to convince her mom to let her go at all, which is no small accomplishment.) I think if we did end up going and she told her mom that she unexpectedly met me in New York while we were both in college, she might be willing to give us a second chance, but for now it's not an option.

Man, you must be a real fuckhead...for someones mom to hate you.

I think his situation is hardly unique. Plenty of moms hate their daughter's boyfriend, it just seems a bit draconian of CP's mom to set such crazy limitations because they clearly don't work. I'm guessing they're not robbing banks nor is he pimping her out, so who cares. They're happy and somewhat normal

Congrats, it seems like you both got what you were hoping for.

Is her mom going to be paying for her education? If not, is it just a matter of respect about convincing her mom to "let her go"?

No, her mom won't be paying for it, but she still doesn't have anyone to support her going there. It's not about respect, but it's not as easy as walking out the door and going off to college. If she goes to New York, she's going to have no one to take her up there, move her in, or even take her to VISIT before May 1. Plus, she'll have no way home on breaks without finding and buying her own transportation back and forth. I suppose there's SOME way all of that could work out, but it's hardly worth the stress and effort.

You two will be broken up within the first semester. High school relationships aren't meant to last, especially when they are moved into an environment like an art school in NYC.
Congrats anyway.

Maybe you and Dumpjack missed the sarcasm course, held here daily.

I guess I needed a smiley or something.

somebody should have said it earlier... and actually probably the worst thing that could happen is that it does last during college.. and then you break up and pull your hair out when you realize you just lost your college years to monogomy...

i don't understand dating around. when i started high school i didn't think about dating around. i dated two people before him. one for a little over a month but he was so stupid and the other guy didn't last too long because i didn't like him. but i've never really understood dating a lot of people because i LOVE meeting people but i really love finding a best friend. someone i can count on for a long time. who knows how long we will last? we could last another month, though i doubt it because things are really great between us.. but anyways, i like taking my life on a day to day basis. i plan some things out, but when it comes to something like this it's stupid to try and predict what will happen in the future.
right now things are great, so who knows if things will be great later?
i never said we were going to college together but i hope so because he's been my best friend for an awfully long time and it's been great.

Prosody doesn't translate in the written word.
