Whatever Happened To Fun...?

Yeh, it's obscure. But Gilby Clarke's first band was called Candy - and if anybody out there has a vinyl copy of their Whatever Happened To Fun...? album languishing in their basement, well, let's just say they fetch a pretty penny on e-bay these days.

Anyway, I was curious which band would get on this new season of Rock Star, because every one I could think of - with the exception of Queen - didn't have a deep enough songbook for this kind of televised cabaret. But with Newstead, Clarke, and Lee they can tap into the songbooks of all 3 previous bands. And, oh yes, it'll suck - but it's the kind of suck that'll make for some awesome trainwreck tv.

He also gets tapped to produce a lot of indie-emo-garage bands, to lend them big-rock sheen and rock-star charm. He did the Bronx album, and (from what I've heard) was supposed to produce the second album from a post-Gadjits (everyone but the chick from that ska-garage band) band (tha Architects?). I find it kind of objectionable that he'd deign to work with that drivel... But, as Rally's Drive-in posits, Ye gotta eat.

I still think Van Halen was the best fit for this show.

Joy Division would be a perfect fit for this fine, fine CBS program.

Now if Tommy Stinson, Gibby Haynes and Jason Ringenberg did a show, that I'd watch.

Well that seals it. Liz Phair needs to join Tommy Lee in the boudoir and "get naked".

I lost all my respect I had for Newstead for doing this.

As for the other two, I couldn't care any less.
