Anyone use this or something similar? Looks like it has some serious potential.

Yes, that sounds cool, IF it works well. I wonder what processes it uses to analyze your files?

Well, so far, this is pretty impressive. It analyzed just under 9,000 songs in less than an hour (most of these were stored on their database, having a fast 'Net connection helps here). The remaining ~800 may take a while. Apparently, it "fingerprints" the acoustic of the track's first two minutes. There's some artist repeat if you base it on a specific song, but it's done some neat stuff also. Here's a quick trial run...

1. Sufjan Stevens - The Transfiguration <--- basis for mix
2. Old 97's - Weightless
3. Billy Bragg & Wilco - The Unwelcome Guest
4. Badly Drawn Boy - Delta (Little Boy Blues)
5. Everclear - The Honeymoon Song
6. The Beatles - While My Guitar Gently Weeps
7. Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry, Be Happy
8. The Soggy Bottom Boys - Man Of Constant Sorrow
9. John Hartford - Man Of Constant Sorrow (Instrumental)
10. Whiskeytown - Mirror, Mirror
11. The Beatles - Piggies
12. The White Stripes - Wasting My Time
13. Wilco - Misunderstood
14. Ivy - Baker
15. The Beach Boys - Sloop John B
16. Wilco - I Am Trying To Break Your Heart
17. Bedlam - Harvest Moon
18. Modest Mouse - The World at Large
19. Elvis Costello - Veronica
20. R.E.M. - Sweetness Follows

The premium version also has "more like this / less like this" functionality if a particular song sticks out. Similar artists, similar albums, etc. LOTS of stuff to play with here. You can also write the data to your mp3s without any major effect on your tags (like foobar's replaygain, uberized folders will need re-enforcing just like any other tag change).

Recommended for anyone who has a huge digital collection and would like some more intelligent shuffling.

Now try something loud and heavy and see what it serves up.

I don't get the Sgt. Peppers, but other than that its a pretty good mix.

How much does the premier version cost?

I was surprised at Pepper's too, but upon listening to it, it works somehow. You can also define how much variety and breadth you want in the mixes.

Premium = $9.95 per year as an annual subscription or $29.95 for a one-time unlimited fee.

mixmeister is great but i don't think this is the same thing.

this is like a music gestapo looking at your files and making what it thinks is a great mix for you.

The free version is a bit more gestapo. Premium gives you some really nice flexibility.

Yeah, mixmeister looks more of taking a given set of songs and putting them into a cohesive mix via beat-matching, tempo changes, et al. (which is also pretty great). MusicMagic is simply a tool to select the songs.

edit: clarity and gram-mer-mer-mer
