Going to a movie by yourself is viewed by most to be quite pathetic, so going to a movie by yourself and sneaking in booze has to be the equivalent of sinking to an all-time low or hitting rock bottom.
Though it is probably no worse than getting hammered at home by yourself.

Thats silly, maybe Friday or Sat evening it's a bit sad but going on your own weeknights or Sunday daytime with booze, thats rock n roll. Read some Bukowski for gods sake.

I have often been ridiculed and laughed at by siblings and girlfriend for drinking serious amounts of alcohol by myself, especially when it involves bottles of wine or Scotch. I'm not above drinking by myself, even on a friday or saturday, I'm just stating alot of people view it to be a sign of being a drunk.
I already find it pathetic enough that I end up going to the bars by myself on weeknights, since most of my friends are more settled or have classes. Granted I know a ton of bartenders and musicians who hang out downtown, so I never really drink alone.
I'm not rock n roll enough to drink on a sunday afternoon, unless it involves a family gathering or a bbq outdoors.

Fair enough. You get ridiculed for drinking on your own? You find it pathetic going to bars on your own? Man fuck em, your v.cool in my book then. From my time in the states it was one of my favorite things, the fact you could go into a bar and just chat to anyone and they would usually respond. Over here if you talk to a stranger in a bar they would either think your gay or just take the piss outta you, or kick the shit outta you. I spent quite a bit of time in Orlando drinking at the same two bars and after about a week i had a load of new best friends!

I much prefer my own company anyways.

i used to go to bars alone to read (i'm a nerd, i know), but after a romp with a guy that i didn't find out was married until after said romp, i put a stop to that practice. i also go to movies alone. i love it. pathetic or not, i get to sit wherever i want and i get to see whatever movie i want to see. sweet deal, if you ask me.

Modus Operandi was to slug down a 16 oz 1/2 jack 1/2 coke, then dash into the car before it kicked in and race to the closest theater. Pop in some minty gum, settle in to enjoy the movie.

i go to the movies by myself often.
my friends rarely have interest in the same movies that i do.

i get to pick where we sit. how early/late we arrive. etc.
besides...makes it easier to sneak into double features as well.
