so i'm going to buy new earphones for my ipod. i've heard great things about the Sony MDR-EX71SL's. Has anyone bought any in-the-ear earphones recently? A while back I bought Apple's in the ear ones, and those are god awful. absolutely no bass response whatsoever.

I have Sony earbuds, and they rule. Not sure what model number they are, but they still rule.

I have those. They're much better than stock headphones, but I'm no audiophile either so.....

I know that apple was doing a cross promotion with the sony EX71's a while back so you might want to check that avenue out. Not sure if they were any cheaper though.

I just looked at the apple ones and the look exactly like the sony ones. You may be buying the exact same headphone. Take alook at these. They're the next pair I'm buying.

Yeah, they do look different. I thought those were the sony ones being cross promoted, but I guess I'm wrong. The Sony's are pretty qual for an affordable price. If you get them let us know how you like them.

i have those headphones too. i really like them, except for the short cord. it comes with an extension which is good, but mine didn't connect quite right, so i have to use my ipod remote cord with these all the time now.

yeah a lot of the reviews I read touched on the cord. it's too short unless you use the extender, and I also read that one side is shorter than the other?

Yes, which is kind of awkward at first, but you get used to it. I think it helps differentiate left and right. Left is the shorter one.

for me, the two different lengths seem to help the cord not get in the way as much.

Not an iPod owner, but for my Rio Karma I still love the Sennheiser PX-100. Sound great, extremely comfortable and pretty affordable too. There are several other on this board who like the similar but fully closed PX-200.

In the next few months, I'm going to go up a notch and most likely buy some Shure e3c which can be found with a little hunting for about $50 less than advertised there. There are also the Etymotic ER-6i, but I've read they aren't quite as durable as the e3c.

As always, gobs and gobs of headphone information can be found in the forums at http://www.head-fi.org.

Are the earpieces foam or some sort of rubber? I have some in the ear fones, but I have to keep replacing the foam to the tune of $2.50 per pair. What a rip.
