1. "Those were the D'OHS!" - 5/5. Can't fuck with the Simpsons
2. Devin Davis - Transcendental Sports Anthem - I started playing this cd at my desk, and rocking out appropriately. Gotta love the Monkees tossed in. 3/5
3. Destroyer - 3000 Flowers - I think you've raved about these guys many times before, right? I now understand. 3/5
4. John Dufilho - I'm Outside - I love this! 4/5
5. Babyshambles - Back from the Dead - this is my first time actually listening to Babyshambles. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it wasn't this. Actually not bad! 3/5
6. Neko Case - Hold On, Hold On - Am I the only one who finds Neko's voice to be jarring and reverberating, and NOT in a good way? Nice try, but Neko doesn't do it for me. 2/5
7. American Analog Set - First of Four - my first reaction was that this sounded like Sonic Youth's "Shadow of a Doubt," only because of the hushed vocals over the track. 3/5
8. Headphones - Pink and Brown - Had never heard of them before, but it's so simple, it's perfect. 4/5
9. Simple Means - Hidden Grove - I guess I didn't feel much of anything about this tune. It's not bad, but nothing really remarkable. 2/5
10. The Raconteurs - Steady, As She Goes - I have a feeling I'm going to love these guys if they ever put out a full length album. Brendan is wonderful! 5/5
11. Rhett Miller - Ain't That Strange - I like this one a lot. I wasn't familiar with Rhett's stuff. 3/5
12. Eagles of Death Metal - I Gotta Feeling (Just Nineteen) - You know, I *tried* to give these guys a chance, but the vocal is just awful. If it was just the music, I'd be fine, but the vocals ruin it entirely for me. 2/5
13. The Minus 5 - Original Luke - Alright, I guess. 2/5
14. The Ike Reilly Assassination - Farm Girl - so this is the guy everyone's been going on about? Well, I can see how it would appeal to the monger set. It's quite catchy, actually, in a "rollin' down the highway with a go-cup of beer" way. 3/5
15. "No Folk Like Prison Folk" - Krusty rules. 5/5
16. Cat Power - Could We - This is quite nice. I can't help but have my opinion clouded by her weird and inconsistent performance issues, but it's nice. 3/5
17. Isobel Campbell/Mark Lanegan - Honey Child, What Can I Do? - lovely. 4/5
18. The Rosebuds - Shake Our Tree - Not bad, but not memorable to me. 2/5
19. Marah - The Hustle - excellent. 4/5
20. Portastatic - Through With People - My sentiments exactly! Quite nice, and makes me wonder what I've been missing with this band. 5/5
21. The New Pornographers - Graceland - Catchy power pop. I like AC Newman anyway. 4/5
22. Spoon - My First Time, Vol 3 - Groovy, sexy. 3/5
23. Ted Leo + the Pharmacists - Suspect Device - I love Ted Leo. One of these days, I will see him live! I can't help but feel his physical energy while listening to his music (did I mention I channel and do crystal therapy too?) 4/5
24. Okkervil River - No Key, No Plan - For whatever reason, I can't get into these guys. 2/5
25. Centro-Matic - Triggers & Trash Heaps - alright, so this is where South San Gabriel came from... I remember Fu talking about it. This isn't bad, but doesn't do much for me. 2/5
26. Sally Crewe & the Sudden Moves - Looks Fast for a Reason - oh yeah, I dig this. 4/5
27. Robert Pollard - I'm a Widow - Nice closing track. 3/5

FT, I'm telling you, this one is great. Is there any way we can mind-meld or something, because my mix-making skills suck in comparison to yours. This one's great for just about any occasion, but I could totally see myself jamming out on a long drive. Overall, it ranked 3/5, but I'm giving it a 4/5 just because I can.

I'm so glad you caught that, as well! That's probably my single favorite moment on the entire mix.

Wow. I've been making some changes to my mix and was seriously considering putting that same exact Headphones song on there. Guess I'll pick another.

Go with "Natural Disaster."

like all my reviews, i listened without a tracklisting and just noted whatever came to mind.

1. "Those were the D'OHS!" - cheeky intros are always a nice touch.
2. Devin Davis - Transcendental Sports Anthem - this is starting off nicely. i really like the guitars in this song. the vocals remind me of someone i don't care for, but i'm hearing past them. okay... now it's getting a little long.
3. Destroyer - 3000 Flowers - again, i really like the music and am not caring much for the vocals.
4. John Dufilho - I'm Outside - this is a pretty good song - good riffs, alright vocals, not too long.
5. Babyshambles - Back from the Dead - i don't like this very much, doesn't sound like it's going anywhere.
6. Neko Case - Hold On, Hold On - this must be neko case... i first heard her with NPs and then solo, so i've always favored her "rock'n'roll" voice, but i've been slowly liking this other voice more. and yeah, i think this is a very good song.
7. American Analog Set - First of Four - it seems we're moving into the more chill part of this mix. this sounds a little like a tristeza with vocals, but more upbeat. i like it, could definitely see myself listening to more of whomever this is.
8. Headphones - Pink and Brown - great transition into this song from the last. i like this tune.
9. Slender Means - Hidden Grove - this picks up a little before the 1-minute mark, but i keep thinking of that fucking "mow the lawn"/"move along" song by all-american rejects. otherwise, i dig it.
10. The Raconteurs - Steady, As She Goes - this has been in rotation in my home for a few weeks now. how could anything jack white and/or brendan benson be bad? it's not great, but there's certainly a lot of good in it.
11. Rhett Miller - Ain't That Strange - oh yeah, i really like this! early favorite on this mix. everything appeals to me. and you can't go wrong with handclaps. (edit: last sunday, the girl who lives below me was blasting this album. i muted my tv to listen in a few times.)
12. Eagles of Death Metal - I Gotta Feeling (Just Nineteen) - this is another one that i've been listening to a lot lately. wasn't it one of dalen's songs of the day? i should probably get one of their albums someday because i've never not liked a song by them.
13. The Minus 5 - Original Luke - i like this - pretty steady guitars and good vocals.
14. The Ike Reilly Assassination - here's another song that i can't complain about.
15. "No Folk Like Prison Folk" - a diversion...
16. Cat Power - Could We - i find a lot of cat power music to be boring, but this isn't so bad.
17. Isobel Campbell/Mark Lanegan - this is the first song from this project that i've really liked. their vocals somehow do work well together. one of my friends has been talking this up to me and i just hadn't heard anything i liked enough yet.
18. The Rosebuds - Shake Our Tree - is it just me or are more people added into the chorus each time? this is something i need to look out for more.
19. Marah - The Hustle - these vocals remind me a bit of elvis costello. and i mostly really like the music too.
20. Portastatic - Through With People - i don't like these vocals, but the lyrics are fine. and i like the music.
21. The New Pornographers - Graceland - yes! i rock out to this song in my car all the time. when i first heard of it, i thought it was going to be a paul simon. now that would've been interesting.
22. Spoon - My First Time, Vol 3 - this has to be spoon. (what's it from?) i like it better than anything gimme fiction, at least.
23. Ted Leo + the Pharmacists - whoa, i haven't heard a studio version of this. ted leo's covers are pretty much terrific, aren't they? this might reinvigorate my interest in him. (i know, i've been a bad ted leo fan since last summer.)
24. Okkervil River - No Key, No Plan - okkervil? sweet. i can always roll with some okkervil river. i don't know this song either, but that will change very quickly. this is great.
25. Centro-Matic - Triggers & Trash Heaps - this is the first song that i've wanted to skip. i don't like the vocals or the music.
26. Sally Crewe & the Sudden Moves - oohh, sally crewe. nice. something about the production bothers me, but i like it in that "a poor man's spoon with girl vocals" way that i've always liked sally crewe.
27. Robert Pollard - I'm a Widow - this isn't getting it done for me either. or as a closer. (edit: well, now i know why i didn't like it.)

this is one of those mixes that sounds so similar throughout that, if i didn't know better, i'd think the same band was on it multiple times. luckily, i really like this sound. a lot of the transitions, especially 2-3 and 7-8, are great and there's a good feeling throughout it. i will definitely be listening to this on roadtrips this summer. excellent mix. and it's a boatload of music, too.

Thanks for your kind words -- especially about the transitions. This is probably the most I've ever focused on flow from one song to the next on a mix, so it's nice to know that extra effort was worthwhile.

Headphones' "Shit Talker" will most likely be on mine. Not sure yet.

1. "Those were the D'OHS!"
2. Devin Davis - Transcendental Sports Anthem 4* A solid opener--second mix kicked off by Devin Davis--I'll be buying this soon
3. Destroyer - 3000 Flowers 2* Destroyer always sounds like The Monkees w/ the tracking set about 5 PRMs too fast. Never did much for me, still doesn't. Props, though, for working "Clytemnestra" into a song.
4. John Dufilho - I'm Outside 3* Decent enough, but it just sits there
5. Babyshambles - Back from the Dead 2* Could they try harder to sound like The Smiths? Not a fan, and end the song already--I really don't like the noodling fade
6. Neko Case - Hold On, Hold On 4* Yup! And it fits really well in the mix so far.
7. American Analog Set - First of Four 3* The mix has established a really effective mellow feel at this point. This track supports it very well. This is the feel Babyshambles should have strived to attain.
8. Headphones - Pink and Brown 2* This sounds like a MIDI file. The vox aren't knocking me over either. The hopped-up bits in the middle are quite nice, but the can't seem to sustain it
9. Simple Means - Hidden Grove 3* I was digging this a lot until the falsetto. I wish this had a little more energy--parts of it simmer, but sound as if they could have flat out cooked.
10. The Raconteurs - Steady, As She Goes 4* Is She Really Going Out With Him? This has picked up nicely. Solid track--how's the rest of the rekkid?
11. Rhett Miller - Ain't That Strange 4* We're rockin' now, and the mix is flowing very well
12. Eagles of Death Metal - I Gotta Feeling (Just Nineteen) 3* EODM is something I enjoy in only very small doses--starts to grate on me after about four minutes
13. The Minus 5 - Original Luke 4* Ah, this is more like it--I love these John Henry bad-ass anti-hero stories, and they back it up with great instrumental track.
14. The Ike Reilly Assassination - Farm Girl 4* Not too many tracks on Junkie Faithful play well on a mix--this is one of 'em. Aces.
15. "No Folk Like Prison Folk"
16. Cat Power - Could We 2* Not a fan
17. Isobel Campbell/Mark Lanegan - Honey Child, What Can I Do? - 1* Weakest track on the mix.
18. The Rosebuds - Shake Our Tree 2* This sounds to me like The Kinks. The chorus is a tad obnoxious. Oh well, there's a great Marah track up next.
19. Marah - The Hustle 4* IMHBSIO the best track on the new album.
20. Portastatic - Through With People 4* I'm digging this track.
21. The New Pornographers - Graceland 3* Solid.
22. Spoon - My First Time, Vol 3 3*
23. Ted Leo + the Pharmacists - Suspect Device 3* Where's this from? Teddy does Jake Burns proud.
24. Okkervil River - No Key, No Plan 2* Not a fan.
25. Centro-Matic - Triggers & Trash Heaps 2* Another one that just sits there.
26. Sally Crewe & the Sudden Moves - Looks Fast for a Reason - 4* This one, I liked.
27. Robert Pollard - I'm a Widow 3* Decent closer--his vox are somewhat detached from the music, but the instrumental backing is great.

All in all, an excellent mix. There are four or five things on here that I'll go out and buy, so mission accomplished and THANKS!

This will have to be abbreviated because I'm at work and I don't have time to write a song by song review.

This is a great mix. Seriously, not a bad song in the bunch.

Highlights:
Destroyer - great!
Neko Case - I don't even like Neko, but I like this song.
Cat Power through the New Pornographers - really held my attention (I was doing some boring work at the time, this kept my head bopping)
Okkervil River - excellent

Lowlights:
Simpsons stuff. I like the show, but the songs and excerpts are kind of lost on me. Not enough to break the mix, of course.

I'm giving you:

Song choices: A
Flow: A
Art: A+

This mix gets a 5/5 from me. Perfect.

FT - Mister, We Could Use a Man Like Sheriff Lobo Again

1. "Those Were the D'Oh!s"
2. Devin Davis - Transcendental Sports Anthem. Pretty cool. I like both songs I've heard by this guy so far, and I might just have to seek out some more. 3/5
3. Destroyer - 3,000 Flowers. I like this more than 90% of the Bejar stuff I've heard, including his songs with the New Pornos. Most of the time I can't stand this guy. 4/5
4. John Dufilho - I'm Outside. I like this a lot, too, other than the vocals. 3/5
5. Babyshambles - Back From the Dead. Couldn't really muster any strong feelings for this either way, but it seems better than any Libertines/Babyshambles stuff I've heard so far. It works here. 3/5
6. Neko Case - Hold On, Hold On. I haven't managed to catch the Neko bug like some people, but I like her songs well enough. 3/5
7. American Analog Set - First of Four. Haven't heard much of these guys. This one reminds a lot of Pinback (maybe that should be the other way around - I dunno). 3/5
8. Headphones - Pink and Brown. Great transition from the last song. Don't think I've heard this band, but they seem pretty good. They sound pretty familiar, but I can't think of who they remind me of. I wanna hear some more. 4/5
9. Simple Means - Hidden Grove. Not bad, but this is the weakest track so far for me. Still a 3/5.
10. The Raconteurs - Steady, As She Goes. Kinda White Stripes-like. Again, not as strong as some of the earlier tracks but still pretty good. 3/5
11. Rhett Miller - Ain't That Strange. Just not feeling this one. 2/5
12. Eagles of Death Metal - I Gotta Feeling (Just Nineteen). I like this one. Somehow, I don't think I've heard this band before although I see them mentioned a lot. 3/5
13. The Minus 5 - Original Luke. Second track I've heard by this band on a mix, both of them very good. I like this one a little better, I think. 3/5
14. The Ike Reilly Assassination - Farm Girl. This dude is generally fingernails on a chalkboard to me. This one is bearable. 2/5
15. "No Folk Like Prison Folk"
16. Cat Power - Could We. This song would be perfect if it wasn't for those kinda watered-down horns in the background. Still, I think this is one of my favorite tracks on The Greatest. 4/5
17. Isobell Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Honey Child, What Can I Do? This one doesn't do much for me. 2/5
18. The Rosebuds - Shake Our Tree. This is better than the other stuff I've heard by this band, including the time I saw them live. Shows some promise. 3/5
19. Marah - The Hustle. Man, I just don't like Marah. 2/5
20. Portastic - Through With People. Red has this one on her mix, too, so to summarize my review: Portastatic bores me. 2/5
21. The New Pornographers - Graceland. What's this song from? I'm not big on this band, but I think they've actually been getting better. Unfortunately, this sounds to me like the older stuff. It's just too sugary for me. 2/5
22. Spoon - My First Time, Vol. 3. Haven't heard this song either. This is the kind of Spoon song I like. A lot. Thanks for this. 5/5
23. Teo Leo + Pharmacists - Suspect Device. Huh. I've been pretty unimpressed with what little Ted Leo I've heard in the past. This didn't grab me at first, but I kinda dig it. 3/5
24. Okkervil River - No Key, No Plan. Might be the best song of theirs I've heard. 3/5
25. Centro-Matic - Triggers & Trash Heaps. This is alright. 3/5
26. Sally Crewe & The Sudden Moves - Looks Fast for a Reason. Don't like this much. 2/5
27. Robert Pollard - I'm a Widow. Good closer. I like that riff. 3/5

Overall:
Flow - 5/5. Really well done mix, and the Simpsons are a nice touch.
Artwork - 3/5. Good cover idea, but it's pretty pixelated.
Surprises - 4/5. Just a lot of good shit on here, plus Spoon and Destroyer tracks I like more than most of either's total output. Not that much of a "surprise", but that isn't really the right word I wanted to use for this category.
Song Quality - 3/5

Final Score 3.5/5

Best one so far! Thanks.

1. "Those were the D'OHS!" - Was this on an actual episode? I don't recall ever seeing it. It got a chuckle out of me.
2. Devin Davis - Transcendental Sports Anthem - I like both of the songs I have heard from this guy so far. And it does kinda sound like a sports anthem. 4/5
3. Destroyer - 3000 Flowers - I didn't care much for it the first time I heard it but I like that shuffling rhythm it has...plus I've grown to like that riff that is played all throughout the song. 4/5
4. John Dufilho - I'm Outside - Catchy, and I like the guitar tones. I like the way it starts out with that riff in the beginning that sounds kind of boring on it's own, but then the rest of the song comes in and it makes more sense. It does have a repetitive hook. But it's a good one. 4/5
5. Babyshambles - Back from the Dead - This reminds me of Hall & Oates' "Maneater" for some reason. Not bad though. 2/5
6. Neko Case - Hold On, Hold On - I don't know how she managed to slip past me all these years. I never really listened to her until I started buying New Pornographers CDs. The solo stuff of hers that I have heard lately seems to do her voice more justice. 3.5/5
7. American Analog Set - First of Four - My bro likes these guys. This kind of bored me the first few listens because it seemed to have an indistinguishable glumness about it. But it's grown on me. And I like the way the bass doesn't dominate the track, but sneaks in when it needs to. 3/5
8. Headphones - Pink and Brown - I like PDL more. But this is one of 4 tracks I like from the Headphones album. 3/5
9. Simple Means - Hidden Grove - I don't remember this standing out at first but it grew on me. One of the tracks I like the most on this mix. I will surely check these guys out. 5/5
10. The Raconteurs - Steady, As She Goes - Another one that didn't stand out as much when I first heard it but its hook slowly revealed itself to me. Gets kind of cluttery around 2:40 though for a brief moment. I actually didn't realize this was a new band with Jack White until I recently checked allmusic. 3/5
11. Rhett Miller - Ain't That Strange - I like the Old 97s but never got around to checking out Rhett's solo stuff. Like most tracks here, it took a few spins. It's better than I thought it would be. 3/5
12. Eagles of Death Metal - I Gotta Feeling (Just Nineteen) - Heard of them, but never heard them until now. This has a sexy swagger to it that reminds me of QOTSA. I pretty much liked immediately. 3.5/5
13. The Minus 5 - Original Luke - I like it. Over the last month, I've come to notice that there is a board-wide conspiracy to get me to buy the new Minus 5. 3.5/5
14. The Ike Reilly Assassination - Farm Girl - The harmonica on the intro is a nice touch. It's a pretty solid rockin song that would be easier for me to get into in a live setting. I do hope he eventually finds a "Farm Girl." 3/5
15. "No Folk Like Prison Folk" - hah
16. Cat Power - Could We - I haven't heard much from The Greatest, but this is better than most of what I have heard from her overall. Previously the only song I really liked from her was "Free" from You Are Free. 3.5/5
17. Isobel Campbell/Mark Lanegan - Honey Child, What Can I Do? - I'm not sure how I missed it the first few times, but this track has a subtle warmth that I've come to appreciate. 3/5
18. The Rosebuds - Shake Our Tree - The claps and the ringy snare drum go well together. Not much else about the song still sounds out. 2/5
19. Marah - The Hustle - At first I was kind of indifferent to this, but it's grown on me. And I do like the way it evolves into a full fledged disco based song in the last 45 seconds. 3/5
20. Portastatic - Through With People - This is good but I think I liked the song on Soreal's mix more. 2.5/5
21. The New Pornographers - Graceland - Hmmm...never heard this one. Seems like classic NP though. 3/5
22. Spoon - My First Time, Vol 3 - Wow...never heard this one either. It's danceable like "Camera.." One thing I have to say about Spoon, their drum sounds are always top notch. 4/5
23. Ted Leo + the Pharmacists - Suspect Device - Doesn't blow me away, but it's pretty energetic. 2/5
24. Okkervil River - No Key, No Plan - Better than most of what made it on to Black Sheep Boy. 3/5
25. Centro-Matic - Triggers & Trash Heaps - Saw these guys open for MMJ back in 2004. They were good live but I'm not really into this for some reason. 2/5
26. Sally Crewe & the Sudden Moves - Looks Fast for a Reason - I like this, especially the parts where the sticks are used in place of the closed symbol for the pacing of the rhythm. 3/5
27. Robert Pollard - I'm a Widow - Robert makes so much freakin music I can barely keep up. I never got around to picking up the last 2 GBV albums so I was never in a rush to pick up the solo album. But this is a good track. For some reason, when I play this on the CD player in my bedroom, it skips back to the 1:49 part of the song once it gets to the end of the song. One night, when I was going to sleep and I had my headphones on, I think I basically listened to this song for 30 minutes straight without realizing it. 4/5

This is just a fun solid mix throughout, and there's not really a stinker in the bunch. Probably my fav one of the exchange so far (especially the first half). A very strong trio of opening songs. It kind of makes my mix sound a bit too serious in comparison. ;)

*edit*

By the way FT, I looked in allmusic and could not find a "Simple Means." But I found a "Slender Means" that had a song called "Hidden Groove." I take it that's them?

Yeah, for some reason, I akways subliminally insinuate Simple Minds. It should be Slender Means.

This is really good. I'll post a track-by-track review when I listen to it for a second time later.

Thanks, Harley! I've really got to hunker down and start listening to/reviewing everyone else's mixes.

1. "Those were the D'OHS!" - 4/5.

Why not a 5/5? I've got to downgrade you a pt for squirgell risk. Its pretty damn loud compared to most of what I listen to
and it reasonating through the office doesn't make me seem like a serious-minded, hard-working employee.

2. Devin Davis - Transcendental Sports Anthem - 3/5

I don't care much for the disc but this works well in the context of the mix.

3. Destroyer - 3000 Flowers - 2/5

I like Destroyer but not this song so much.

4. John Dufilho - I'm Outside - 3/5

So this is what his solo stuff sounds like? Enjoyable but I'd like it a lot more if it weren't so repetitive

5. Babyshambles - Back from the Dead - 2.5/5

Not really my thing, but its ok

6. Neko Case - Hold On, Hold On - 2/5

Deep Blue Balls or whatever that song's called isn't bad but I've never liked much else from her. This doesn't change things.

7. American Analog Set - First of Four - 4/5

I've never heard a song by them I don't like. Why don't I own more?

8. Headphones - Pink and Brown - 4/5

This is someone's side project is it not? I recognize the name and like it but can't place their sound.

9. Simple Means - Hidden Grove - 4/5

You're hitting a nice stride here with 3 4's in a row. I think this is the type of song Radcliffe has in mind when he says simplicity is underrated.

10. The Raconteurs - Steady, As She Goes - 2.5/5

I don't dislike it but I find it very unremarkable.

11. Rhett Miller - Ain't That Strange - 1.5/5

I don't like this one much at all.

12. Eagles of Death Metal - I Gotta Feeling (Just Nineteen) - 2/5

Don't dislike it but it sounds enough like QOTSA but not nearly as good that I just keep wondering why not listen to QOTSA instead.

13. The Minus 5 - Original Luke - 2/5

Another unremarkable one.

14. The Ike Reilly Assassination - Farm Girl 2.5/5

At his best, Ike is very catchy and thoroughly enjoyable. At his worst, he's whiny and annoying. This is closer to the later than the former.

15. "No Folk Like Prison Folk" - Krusty rules. 5/5

Nice transition...you'd gotten into a rut there and I need my palate cleansed. This does the trick.

16. Cat Power - Could We 3/5

I like her. I never noticed before but I think she has a little chrissy hynde in her voice even if their styles are dramatically different.
I assume this is from the new one? I should dl it from emusic.

17. Isobel Campbell/Mark Lanegan - Honey Child, What Can I Do? -1.5/5

I love Mark Lanegan and like Isobel Campbell. The reviews also make it sound like something right up my alley. Seems like a no brainer that this would be a winner of a track for me but It isn't. I'm really bored by it. It sounds like Mark Lanegan stopped drinking whiskey and smoking cigs...I love Lanegan enough that I'm still tempted to buy the album but I'm scared that I'll hate it. Does it all sound like this?

18. The Rosebuds - Shake Our Tree - 3/5

Nothing Groundbreaking but catchy enough.

19. Marah - The Hustle - 2/5

Guys like FU and Rads loving Marah so much make me listen closer but I still fail to see the attraction...Straight forward rock? check...any magic? nope

20. Portastatic - Through With People - 4/5

I like this...nice powerpop

21. The New Pornographers - Graceland - 1.5/5

Never liked them..still don't.

22. Spoon - My First Time, Vol 3 - 3/5

Good ingredients, but just ok song

23. Ted Leo + the Pharmacists - Suspect Device - 4/5

Downgraded only because the original is better. This is a nice cover though and renews my hope for Ted Leo.

24. Okkervil River - No Key, No Plan 1.5/5

I like Shearwater A LOT more. I just can't get into these guys. It bores me.

25. Centro-Matic - Triggers & Trash Heaps - 3/5

Like it, don't love it, but I almost feel like abstaining from reviewing this song. Few Will Johnson songs don't improve with age so reviewing this
song based on a handful of listens isn't that fair. That said, I know our preferences in his music aren't the same...for me: Will Johnson Solo > South San Gabriel > Centro Matic...think you're of the opposite opinion

26. Sally Crewe & the Sudden Moves - Looks Fast for a Reason - 3/5

Isn't there some Britt Daniel connection to this? The Music sounds a little Spoon'esque at times (esp. the keys) even if a little softer in tone.
That said its another song with some good ingredients that don't make a particularly great song for me. Something's missing although I'm not sure what.

27. Robert Pollard - I'm a Widow - 2.5/5

I'm sure I would thoroughly enjoy this if I was in the same room as Bob and nearly as lubricated. Neither is the case right now thus my enjoyment of this is fairly limited.

I don't like everything on here but its a strong mix over all. A few things new to me that I do really like, good transitions and nothing bad. Its better than the sum of its parts.

David Bazan from Pedro the Lion. Also, Frank Lenz and Tim Walsh. Frank usually handles drums for PDL live.... Tim Walsh was on PDL's Achilles Heel.

You almost got ME Squirggled by making me laugh so loud at that! I think you would have liked the mix better if I had put the Tito Puente song about Mr. Burns on there. (haha)

1. "Those Were The D'oh!s"
This feels kind of out of place on this mix. And a lot of the '70s references are lost on me. i.e. I have no idea who Sheriff Lobo is. Bonanaza, maybe?

2. Devin Davis - Transcendental Sports Anthem
The only song I know by his is 'Iron Woman'. I don't like this as much though, like Dana said, the little Monkees riff in there is pretty awesome.

3. Destroyer - 3000 Flowers
I've obviously heard a lot about these guys but haven't heard anything yet. This isn't bad but doesn't change my stance on them. It doesn't tell me whether I'd like them or not. I still need to hear more.

4. John Dufilho - I'm Outside
This is decent. See my comments on #3.

5. Babyshambles - Back From The Dead
This must be a side project. I like the Libertines more. If these guys aren't connected to them at all, I'll be surprised. It's too Clashy not to be.

6. Neko Case - Hold On, Hold On
Good. Typical Neko.

7. The American Analog Set - First Of Four
I like the American Analog Set. I don't know anything but they're on my shopping list. But yeah. It's getting to seem like every AmAnSet sounds exactly the same. I like that song. I like this song. But you know...

8. Headphones - Pink And Brown
Nice blend. It wasn't until the vocals hit that I looked up to realise it was a new song. Good, but again feels more like a filler track off a good album. There's just not much to this that really makes it stand out or come alive.

9. Slender Means - Hidden Grove
This is better. Reminds me of someone, but I don't know who.

10. The Raconteurs - Steady, As She Goes
I have this downloaded, but hadn't listened yet. I like Brendan Benson though, and some White Stripes, so I have expectations.

This is really good and doesn't sound at all like the Stripes, which was my biggest fear.

11. Rhett Miller - Ain't That Strange
I used to own the album with the green cover. I think it was called The Instigator. It had a couple of great tracks and the rest kind of sucked. None of it sounded like this, though. I don't really care for this.

12. Eagles Of Death Metal - I Gotta Feeling (Just Nineteen)
The name doesn't bode well. Classic rock and metal are two of my least favorite musical genres. And these are Darkness-esque vocals. I'm going to have to skip this.

13. The Minus 5 - Original Luke
I don't know if I like this or not. I don't think so. Somebody could probably do a cover of this that I would love, though.

14. The Ike Reilly Assassination - Farm Girl
Pretty good.

15. "No Folk Like Prison Folk"
I don't remember this. It's not that funny so it must be from a recent season.

16. Cat Power - Could We
This started playing before I had a chance to look at the tracklisting, but I could tell it was Cat Power immediately anyway, even before the vocals. This must be off the new disc too. I'm definitely going to pick it up some day when I have money.

17. Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Honey Child, What Can I Do?
Thank you. Belle And Sebastian are my favorite band and I quite like what Isobel's done on her own. But I'd heard two other tracks off this album and didn't like them at all, mostly because I can't stand his voice. But this track makes me hopeful again. Hopeful enough not to write it off.

18. The Rosebuds - Shake Our Tree
I've had Make Out on my shopping list for so long. I would've bought it a couple of times already if I'd ever seen it in store anywhere. I take it this is off the new album? Consistently good.

19. Marah - The Hustle
I think this might be my favorite track on the disc so far.

20. Portastatic - Through With People
Pretty good.

21. The New Pornographers - Graceland
Only track on the cd that I knew beforehand. I love the New Pron.

22. Spoon - My First Time, Vol. 3
I've heard more from Spoon that I like better.

23. Ted Leo + Pharmacists - Suspect Device
Not my favorite Buzzcocks song, but Ted Leo's covers are generally pretty strong. Yeah, this is pretty good. Actually at first, I was kind of not liking it and wanting it to end. But as it continues on, I find myself tapping my hand to it.

24. Okkervil River - No Key, No Plan
Pretty great.

25. Centro-Matic - Triggers & Trash Heaps
Only song I know by them is 'Hercules Now'. This isn't as good as them but still a decent song.

26. Sally Crewe & The Sudden Moves - Looks Fast For A Reason
This sounds like the kind of band that I would really like. I'm definitely looking into this.

27. Robert Pollard - I'm A Widow
I haven't heard anything non-GBV by him yet. This sounds just as good as anything they did.

Post-Mix Wrap-Up
I liked it more the first time than the second time. Just because a lot of these songs are enjoyable but a lot of them sound like okay tracks by good groups. If you know what like I mean. I get the feeling that I probably would like all these groups if I heard more by them. I get the feeling that they have all better tracks.

I also find it a bit too long. I'm not of the opinion that most of the obners are -- that, if a cd can hold 80 minutes, it should. I try to keep my mixes around 15-17 tracks just because I find anything longer than that sometimes feels too long and makes you less willing to put on that cd.
