Kansas Pastor Phelps

Saw on Good Morning America where he is now protesting at funerals of American soldiers for defending a country that supports homosexuals. Guy has to be the biggest a**hole alive. Taunting grieving parents and children at the funeral is beyond awful.

The bikers that now blockade the protestors made me cry though.

His church has about 100 members, 90% of which I believe are related to him by blood or marriage.

Fucking news media needs to just ignore him.

Agreed. Just giving him what he really wants.

But that doesn't make any difference. He's not a celebrity, he's a religious nut. Those guys don't care if they are on TV or not. He would still be going around making a nuisance of himself regardless of lack of media coverage.

Here we have a charge called 'Breach of the Peace' i.e "creating loud noise by fighting or challenging to fight, disturbing others by loud and unreasonable noise, or using offensive words likely to incite violence."

If there is an American equivalent, and I'm sure there must be, he should be arrested as soon as he attempts to interupt a funeral service.

I saw these jackasses outside a church not far from me 2 weeks ago during a funeral service for a local Iraq casualty. Had no idea who he was and couldn't believe the signs they had: "Thank God for IEDs," "God Hates Us". They were back for another funeral the following week and we did a story on them. Even if you disagree passionately with what they think, it's a debate that deserves attention,

It's funny...there's a guy who walks down olympic boulevard in K-town in LA with a large sign that says "No one at the Oscars thanked Jesus" or some other nonsense each morning on my way to work ...

Religious nuttery knows no bounds.

If it's a local story, sure. But I don't think that the debate itself deserves any attention at all. What if the position was integration or women's suffrage rather than gay rights? Would that debate deserve attention as well?

Well, Jesus was the gaffer on "Brokeback Mountain" so it IS pretty insulting.

Phelps is sending some assholes to the funeral this week of a soldier from Maine killed in Iraq. I think he'd probably better rethink that. Mainers got guns.

There were some loonies standing in the middle of 6th street with a bullhorn and a bunch of 'you're all going to hell' signs on thursday night.

Man I wish people wouldn't claim christianity when they do this stuff. I get so frustrated that people claim christianity and then do this sort of thing. It drives me up the wall because it makes it so uncomfortable to claim that I am christian because then people start instantly thinking that I am going to stand on a street corner and condemn strangers. It's outrageous and I wish this man didn't do it.

I apologize for him.
