I've been getting into the music of these guitarists as of late, as spring nears. What I've heard is extremely languid, minimal, spacious, ambient guitar music, Connors' being the far more understated of the two.

Their respective catalogues (including collaborations) seem to be very deep. Is anyone else familiar with them, and can you make specific recommendations? Or recommendations of similar artists? They're definitely in the same vein as the Charalambides, and member projects, but somehow these two guys' work is set apart for me ...

I have one Connors album. It is a concept album about Shelley, and his subsequent drowning. If I can find it, I'll PM you.

I only have one album by each.

Loren Connors:
Haunted House - Up in Flames. This was the second release on the Erstwhile label, and I think it's the only recording of Connors' Haunted House group with Suzanne Langille on vocals. The recording quality is kinda poor (apparently this a common problem with Connors who is very particular about how he is recorded), but I think it's a very good record. I would definitely recommend it.

Richard Youngs:
River Through Howling Sky. I was severely disappointed in this record given the good reviews and sources of recommendations I'd gotten. I've warmed up to it a little bit over time, but I still don't really like it. It's very stark and minimal, and it kinda just sounds like the dude got stoned and made it all up as he went. It's painfully slow, and IMO, pretty dull. Reviews called it "harrowing", but I'd call it pretentious and lazy.

The Richard Youngs that I've heard is with Kawabata Makoto and it absolutely sparkles. Hit me up for that, Drinky, if you need new insight to Youngs.

The Connors I've heard is "In Twilight" and "Sails". I can offer them up for any love offered to me.

I would like to hear these.

I'll hook you up with that Haunted House album when I get the chance. Hopefully I'll have time tonight.
