Yes. I'm leaving for Madrid at the beginning of April and then we'll make our way up through the south of France to Paris. :) Have you been? Any suggestions? I'm so excited.

Migraine - Oliver Sacks

I'm a migraine sufferer and after a freaky visual-migraine while I was driving last week, I decided I should start learning about this condition. Afterall, I've only been dealing with this crap for 15 years or so - it ain't going away, so why not actually find out what's going on? Very interesting, if difficult (lots of medical terminology) reading. Recommended for migraineurs - maybe I've been ignoring it all along, but the headache is only one of the symptoms, and reading this book has alerted me to a lot of other things I experience, even when not actually having a migraine headache, that are part of the condition.

I didn't expect much out of this, but it's been interesting so far. The section where Bob explains some of his songs is really unnecessary and, for some strange reason, smack-dab in the middle of the book, which freaked me out - I thought the rest of the book was just song interpretations. Luckily it wasn't, but as you can guess, the explanations really aren't that gripping. The basic GBV story, however, really is.

Keep an eye on the live entertainment listings and see any of the following bands if they are playing:

Ojos De Brujo
Macaco
Wagner PA e Brazuca Matraca
Amparanoia
Sergent Garcia
Fermin Muguruza

I've never been to Spain but Barcelona's music scene is one of the best in the world. Would love to go.

Probably the most shocking opening line of any book I've ever read.

Fucking amazing. I can't believe/can't wait for volume 3.

Jim Greer's great. I plan to read this sometime soon.

How far is he into it? I'm kinda surprised by how much I'm enjoying it, based on all the fear/trepidation I've heard from other folks...

Yay! Migraine buddies!

Have you checked out migraine-inspired art? There's some really amazing stuff out there, some of it created by people who were suffering from visual migraines at the time. There are some examples in the book, but if you just search you'll find tons. This one in particular really freaks me out because it looks just like what I've seen:
