The headlines from my Reds email list:

Happy:

"Reds to rock with Arroyo
The Reds' coolness factor increased considerably when pitcher
Bronson Arroyo, obtained in the Wily Mo Pena trade, walked into
the clubhouse Tuesday."
I liked Wily Mo, but dang if we didn't need some pitching! Boston, you got yourself one hell of a hitter.

Mad:

"Bush invited to Opening Day
President Bush, an acquaintance of new Reds chief executive
officer Robert Castellini, has accepted an invitation to attend
the Reds' opener against the Cubs on April 3."
He is to throw out the first pitch. Aaarrrgh.
I guess it's Ohio that helped him win the election...

Eric Davis was my non Yankee favorite ball player for many years...If he wasnt so injury prone, he would have been a legend.

Eric the Red is a legend in Cincinnati. He was an instructor at training camp this year. Maybe this will lead to something else in the organization.

Bronson Arroyo is hardly the answer for their pitching woes. I think this team wants to suck forever. And Wily Mo might be very, very good some day.

Aaron Harang and Bronson Arroyo are going to be fighting it out for the Cy Young award this year.

I still don't understand why the Redsox would rather have Willy Mo than Arroyo. Granted he was slated for the BP now, but with the age of Shilling & Wells and the likelihood that at least one of those two and/or Beckett will miss time due to an injury at some point in the year you would think Arroyo would be someone they would want to keep.

Redsox = 1 too many starting pitchers
Reds = 1 too many outfielders

makes perfect sense to me, except the Reds got rid of Casey at 1B so Dunn could play there so Pena could play every day. So maybe we have some other outfielder or 1st basemen prospect this spring that I donlt know about.

What kind of fan are you? Reds have Scott Hatteberg to play first. Willy Mo is slated to platoon with Trot Nixon I guess...I'm just saying good pitching is hard to come by. I think the redsox will regret this trade at some point in the season, and I say that thinking Willy Mo is a good player.

I was thinking to make up for somebody who doesn't hit lefties well like Coco Crisp.

My wife is happy to see Bronson go. She's sick of the swooning female fans on the Sox boards she posts at. Vaminos Damon. Sayanora, Arroyo. She's one of those true baseball fans who can't stand personality cults and wants players who work for the team.

She was a Bill Mueller woman.

Because he could never close the deal on pitching to left-handed hitting. They would and will still be looking for replacements for Schilling and Wells regardless of Arroyo's presence on the team. Papelbon is likely going to be the swingman for at least part of this season until he can become a more dependable sp (e.g. Bernie just went yard off of an ill-advised slider from Papelbon).

Trot is an extremely injury-prone outfielder and is not getting any younger. That's where the Wily Mo attraction comes from. Plus he's from the DR, which is a nice intangible.

I'm sad to see Arroyo go, since he was part of the '04 team, is a swell guy, was very dependable, if not amazing, as a pitcher, etc. I hope you guys like your Creed covers!

The Red Sox have Wily Mo Mentum*.

Note: the name of my rotisserie team last year, as it featured Wily Mo... Though, and despite Mr Pena's efforts, the team finished fifth.

I am not familiar with the dude.
I guess I should know who he is and where he came from.

I thought Willy Mo Pena was a Whiff Artist of Soriano proportions.

Truth. If you loaded the bases with Dunn and Pena coming up, youd either be down 5-0 or youd K them both. I dont imagine they ever hit back-to-back often

the sox carry a rh 4th outfielder to give trot a break against lefties. arroyo wouldn't have pitched in the rotation and his trade value would go way down after pitching out of the pen. plus wily mo can play 1b if youk has to move to 3b if lowell can't hit. that's the answer. not to mention the upside on a 24 yo with so much raw power. great deal for the sox.

As an Astros fan, Wily Mo scared the crap out of me every time he came to the plate. The prospect of facing Arroyo gives me optimism of picking up a W.
