Mine would be Animal Collective.

Voted for Modest Mouse since they kinda broke through big time, and I guess I like their album better than any of the others listed. Haven't heard Keane, The Stills or The Killers.

I LOOOOVE YOU, MAN!

Seriously, I love how the board has become an open DBT fan club these days.

I'd vote for the Arcade Fire, if only it were listed...

Nice work paladisiac.

I voted Modest Mouse also simply because they have really earned the success that they have received. It was close, I could also seeing it as the year of Franz but they only have one album out and by that criteria I gave to MM more as a career award vote.

It basically took some of us actually listening to them to get into them.

I used to think they probably were another Southern Culture On The Skids, meaning pretty good but not something I'd salivate over.

But after getting The Dirty South, I know the DBT praise is justified.

It was a surprise hit for me. My top 5 were

1. The Drive-By Truckers - The Dirty South
2. Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days
3. The Black Keys - Rubber Factory
4. Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra - Who Is This America?
5. Death From Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm A Machine

I like the diversity of styles represented there.

seeing how i love your top 4 (antibalas being the only one that missed out on my top 20 -- not by much mind you), i assume i should check out your #5....

yeah, i said it before...for some reason there was something turning me off from DBT before even checking them out. maybe it was all the skynyrd talk that goes along with them. big mistake. even though i've only listened for a couple of weeks now, they are my artist of '04 -- i am so completely enthralled with them right now for some reason. i'm sure if i had heard them earlier, they'd rank higher on my shmoo list.

I voted for Franz (my #6 album), but Modest Mouse (my #4 album) made a good case for itself.

I downloaded a couple songs from Antibalas before, they're pretty neat.
