french toast, syrup, biscuits and gravy, bacon, patties, links.

I forgot to make eggs today. I make good eggs though. And good quiche.

So who's in?

You only live twice, Mr. Bond.

And I've got 21 years of french toast making experience. I'm a pro.

Can't tell you any secret ingredients to that one, nuh uh.

I'm on my 3rd bond movie of the day and breakfast sounds good. I think we're going to get along well.

I think he's planning on leaving chicago on Friday April 7th. He's driving though so I don't know when he's shooting to get to LA...if I remember right he's got to be back in Chicago on the morning of April 17th. I'm assuming he's staying til at least saturday morning April 15th. Otherwise he won't be here on a friday night to catch Jon Brion.

Not really...unless, you wanna hang out at the Ontario Mills, a huge shopping center. And if there are any races going on at the California Speedway, you can also go there. You will, however, be not too far away from me...soooo, in case you wanna meet up for drinks, I could make myself available. :)

I was just looking over some concert calendars to see what's going on when Phil's in town.

Largo's got a pretty good lineup that week:

tues: eef barzelay w/ marc carroll
wed: aimee mann
fri: jon brion

zanzibar has their monthly brazilian dj night on that wed. And I thinking mickey champion still has her tuesday residency at little pedro's.

That's all I could find...strangely I didn't see anything really notable at spaceland, the echo, el rey, troubadour, or the knitting factory. I'd imagine there will be more show announcements in the next week or so.

shows i will be attending if phil's here from apr. 7 - 17th:

april 8th - boy least likely to @ spaceland
april 11th - jamie lidell @ the troubadour
april 17th- the colour @ the troubadour (gotta go to this for work purposes)

so, phil, if you're interested in attending any of these shows, i will be there!

Sondre Lerche is also at The Troubadour on April 8th as are Elbow at the El Rey or is it the Henry Fonda?

I'll be at that Colour show -- gotta support my boys. ;)

Yeah I noticed thoses shows on the 8th but if he's leaving on the 7th and driving I doubt he's going to make it to LA in time to see a show on the 8th. That's over 2000 miles of driving.

If it works out with billy's work schedule, I think we're staying with him.

Also, I've got an offer from an ex to stay with her, and from Tania.

We'll be leaving Chicago around 3:00 p.m. on the 7th, so I'm guessing we'll get there sat. night or early sun. morning.

We'd be flying, but I'm bringing some music gear to try and make some auditions happen, find that sideman headhunter guy and play for him, try and talk to management, that kind of thing.

So we're driving...

Phil, if you don't have this recipe or haven't tried it you need to!

Creme brulee french toast:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1 (8 to 9) inch round loaf Challah bread
5 large eggs
1 1/2 cups half and half
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon Grand Marnier
1/4 teaspoon salt
In a small heavy saucepan melt butter with butter with brown sugar and corn syrup over moderate heat, stirring, until smooth and pour into a 13 by 9 by 2-inch baking dish. Cut 6 (1-inch) thick slices from center portion of bread, reserving ends for another use, and trim crusts. Arrange bread slices in one layer in baking dish, squeezing them slightly to fit. In a bowl whisk together eggs, half and half, vanilla, Grand Marnier and salt until combined well and pour evenly over bread. Chill bread mixture, covered, at least 8 hours and up to 1 day.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and bring bread mixture to room temperature. Bake uncovered, in middle of oven until puffed and edges are pale golden, 35 to 40 minutes.
