It was nice to do some recording and not have to twist knobs.

I redid an old tune, and then I did this new tune I wrote last week.

Code:
hxxp://s63.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=31WITZ30S7FGO18DBPEWJOTMS1

I played drums, acoustic, bass, a few tracks of electric, and sang a few tracks.

He's mixing it this week, just something to pass around as I try to make contacts in L.A.

i'm also gonna put together a reel of stuff I've played bass on professionally. I'm not sure how to go about that though.

Anyhow, this is unmixed, but I had fun doing it. I didn't realize it was as short as it is till we'd recorded it because it's got an intro, two verses, two choruses, a bridge and an outro. But it's only 1:36.

Let me know what you think.

hey, I'm supposed to do the ripping here, dicko.

that song was great. Minus 5 meets costello. The lead vocal could propbably be redone or amped up in the mixing, but not an easy song to sing for sure.

so here's my rip....fvvvvvt. Have a happy day.

Yeah, we'll live with it for a day or two, then we'll talk, then we'll redo what needs to be redone.

midnight is a bad time to sing leads.

I know how to do all that. I just have a 7 year old pc with about 10G's left and have had it crash about 5 months ago. We are in the computer shopping mode. We can't decide to stick with the ol' dell or move on to Apple, but definitely in the game for longevity, no QT on pc's here.

I like it Phil...you've got talent. Say goodbye to your friends in Chicago. Anything lined up yet for when you're in town?

This is by far the best thing I've heard from anyone this board. Good job Phil. I'd love to hear a finished mix of this.

Yeah the vocals need to be heard more. But I like the rawness of harmonies. I'm not in love wiht the guitar sound at all either.

But the song is great.

Less teachy more write songy.

sounds like a b-side to "that thing you do"
and i mean that in a good way.

don't love the production, but it's a rough edit. so yeah.

being completely honest: it's not the sorta thing i usually like, but it sounds good...if i were into this kinda music.

does that make sense? i'm so not good at explaining myself with this stuff....

Thats funny, you beat me to it on that comparison.

This is good and obviously will be even better when it gets cleaned up a bit.

Dig it, thanks for the comments and criticisms.

The drums and bass will probably stay, and I'm going to wait and see how he mixes the guitar before i add or recut.

The drums, well, i'm not a drummer. The bass, it's a good take, and we took it direct, so we can do alot tonally with that, clean signal no clips.

All the guitar parts were that single p-90 gibson es-125 through a star nova on different settings. I'm sure he'll get that sounding pretty slamming given some time, but i'm open to suggestions for guitar/amp/mic combinations. We've got access to a lot of stuff.

I'm not attached to the vocals, but i do like the parts i'm singing. I'm all for giving it another crack and seeing if i can do it better.

I'm just on a time crunch, two weeks to mix it, ghetto master it, and burn some copies with contact information...

So any suggestions will be thoughtfully considered and potentially entertained.

Thanks so much.

-Phil

I like it a lot. I love your voice.

I kind of had a hard time hearing some of the vocals in parts, but the music sounded good. It's catchy without being too saccharine. Mmmm... balance.

I would buy the CD based on it. So make with the CD.
