the only movie i saw so far this year was the hills have eyes and let me say, i thoroughly enjoyed the hell out of that movie. imho, one of the better horror remakes as of late.

I rented Derailed (Jennifer Aniston & Clive Owen) and The Squid and the Whale (Jeff Daniels & Laura Linney) this weekend.

Derailed was tripe. Nice plot twist at the end, but not even that could save this movie.

The Squid and the Whale made me not want to ever have children. That is one messed up family and I think that it's based on the writer's life. God, what an awful, awful family. The boys just made me cringe.

I'd like to see V for Vendetta and Thank You For Smoking sometime soon.

The only thing that's come out so far that I want to see is Vendetta.

Coming out later this year, though:

The Devil And Daniel Johnston
Art School Confidential
For Your Consideration (new Christopher Guest)
Idiocracy (new Mike Judge)
Marie-Antoinette (new Sofia Coppola)
The Science Of Sleep (new Michel Gondry)
American Dreamz

Saw the Squid and the Whale, which was released in 2005, and it was ok.

I saw Everything is Illuminated yesterday, which was also released in 2005, and thought it was absolutely wonderful.

Junebug, also 2005, I thought was pretty good. I thought it was kind of slow but it was a worthwhile movie. I may have even teared up at the end.

I count them as 2006 releases though because I was unable to see them where I live until 2006.

Movies I saw:

Tristan and Isolde - 3 out of 5
End of the Spear - 4 out of 5
Underworld: Revolution - 2 out of 5
Eight Below - 3 out of 5(good kids movie)
Ultra Violet - 1 out of 5
Failure to Launch - 2 out of 5(run of the mill romantic comedy)
V for Vendetta - 3 out of 5

Movies I am looking forward to:

Silent Hill.
X-men III
Superman
That new M. Night Shayamalan film
Lucky Number Slevin
United 93
Pirates of the Carribean
A Scanner Darkly

Then there will be more because there are a ton of movies coming out that I have not yet heard of.

The thing that sucks being where I am at now is that good movies rarely get played. One theater nearby and it only plays one film at a time.

Yea...it's deliberately paced and a very simplistic murder mystery. It also uses "non actors," so the acting was pretty spotty. I was a bit disappointed personally.

Dave Chapelle's Block Party

i am always amazed at film topics on this board. i would think that a persons standards for one art form would carry over to others, but the average obner member does not seem to be offended by cinematic garbage.

I took my son to this and we both thought it was really good. He was reaching for the various fish and other deep sea life throughout the film. The coolest I thought was the giant jellyfish.

I tried to take my daughters to this one and it was sold out---couldn't believe it. Still would like to see it.

yeah, it was pretty sweet. i loved the scallops squealing and chomping as they fled the starfish. and that wormy deal that dives into the tube urchin and eats it from the inside.
