What's the rundown on this guy? Sister-in-law sent me a mix disc with two of his songs on it, and that White Daisy Passing one has my poor ass in a headlock. I keep saying "uncle" but it just keeps on twisting.

It's Simon/Garfunkle-esque, nothing earth shattering, but is just so damn pretty... I can't put it down. And god help me on the bus when the Shuffle throws it on. All but impossible not to sing along.

Anyone?

Well, a cursory search tells me that he's playing RIGHT NOW a quarter mile away, and that the song I'm so in love with is about to be featured on The OC.

Huh.

I bought Suicide Medicine for the song Crabtree and Evelyn, but remember being a little disappointed with the rest of the disc. I've been meaning to go back to it, though. I did pick up his new one used last week, but haven't listened to it yet.

hmm. Of the two songs I got (other is "mix tapes and cellmates"), just the one kills me. I suspect I may be able to cherry-pick a few good ones and save myself some time.

this guy's solo work is hit or miss with me. i have seen him twice live, and he was decent. sometimes his songs get a little too boring.

i was a BIG FAN of waxwing. alos, if i remember right his brother plays in the blood brothers as well.

Perhaps this OC exposure will win him a legion of John Mayer-like fans (ie 13 year old girls and LOTS of 'em).

Lucky him (only if they're in school-girl pleated plaid skirts and skorts).

Hey, if he's talented, and it's what he wants, aces. I have nothing invested in him.

lol, he did tour as an openner for Dashboard - but that is before Dashboard really became big - To an extent I can see where you are going with this, but it isn't really fair - I think that Rocky has a TON more talent than Chris Carraba......and Waxwing fricking rocked by the way....great live band - I was so dissappointed to see them go because I personally preferred Waxwing over any of their individual projects.

I've followed Rocky for about 4 years now. He is very talented, and his songwriting improves on each of his records. I would recommend checking out Burning My Travels Clean and Suicide Medicine as a companion to the new release, Makers, which is excellent.

His songwriting is very personal, beautiful, poetic, and accessible. A must-listen for any fan of acoustic, soulful rock.

Langhorne Slim is opening up for him here on friday and I'm trying to decide whether it's worth going. Sounds a little..lite for me.

This was one artist that a person at the record store I worked at was gah-gah over. I never saw the attraction, but I suppose he has his praise singers.

He opened up for Lucero when I saw them last fall and BLOWS ASS.

He did have all the gals with black Xs on their hands singing along to his pap, except for the miserable covers of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and "Plastic Jesus".

So the obnerds seem to have been pretty down on Rocky circa 2006-2007. Pandora recently told me I should buy Makers, and I like it enough to want more. Anybody familiar enough with his oeuvre to recommend a next step?
