Yesterday I was in the office for the journal I work on at my law school, where we have a collective subscription to Rhapsody for use while in the office. I had just played through Iron & Wine's "Endless Numbered Days," when this guy comes in and sits down at the computer where Rhapsody is open and goes "man, people listen to the weirdest music in here" and goes on to talk about all of the "weird folk" music some of the editors play (this is probably like, Janis Joplin weird, knowing the people he's referring to).

Obviously we're all used to this, and I just kind of laugh, but then the dude puts on BOXCAR RACER, the SHITTY BLINK 182 SIDE PROJECT. I don't know if I can even look him in the eye anymore.

ahhh...memories. so many reasons to hate law school. For me, at least. Just hope you don't end up in the same law firm as this guy or one his 100 million clones.

Hey I like Boxcar Racer. I know that I'm probably the only one on Obner to have this cd or like this band but maybe if you could listen to it with out thinking of it as the shitty blink 182 side project then you would see it isn't that bad.

I also have the CD but never listen to it (I think I got it for $1 when Warehouse music went out of business). Blink 182 is a guilty pleasure of mine, I'll admit, but I still find it funny that someone would criticize everyone else's tastes and then throw in Boxcar Racer of all bands.

i can actually tap my foot to more than a few blink 182 songs, but the boxcar racer singles i've heard (many times) just sound like an extremely repetetive, more mopey blink 182.

plus i hate how he says "the voice inside my yed."

but yeah, mostly i just think it's funny that this guy pretty much thinks anything that's not on your local "new rock alternative" station is "weird."

I share with everyone at my very conservative office.
It is my mission to pry open minds that have been sealed shut by the evil that is corporate radio.

also, it's not like he put on the whole album. he played "i feel so" and "i miss you" (oh, I just realized that "i miss you" is a blink 182 song - i always assumed it was boxcar racer).

I've tried this approach before but find that no one wants to like new music. People ask me about what I've been listening to, ask me to bring something in because they feel out of touch with today's music but when I do it's like "Thanks for bringing that in. Have you ever heard Coldplay?"

I think the thing is that I am the Harmless Office Freak. So oddness is expected. Yeah, I have turned people on to Shrimp Boat, MOTO, The Pogues, Tom Zé, Caesaria Evora, Super Furry Animals, and lotsa others.

It's a good thing.

When did Angels & Airwaves come out. I've been looking forward to it for awhile.

I've said it before, I want my lawyer listening to Black Sabbath and Megadeth rather than Kenny G.

A few years ago i was working nights in a huge warehouse. The PA system was tuned into Radio 1 and only a few people were authorised to touch it. Unfortunately(not for me) the "privileged" people who had keys to get into the pa on the nightshift rota were either ill or on holiday. The hordes were happy to start with, but then John Peel came on. I will never forget the look of horror and the amount of insults that were shouted out when he played three speed metal tracks in a row. The insults went on for two hours until one of the managers worked out how to just turn the whole lot off. I had a great time and pulled a few stomach muscles from chuckling so much.

I was listening to The Skin of my Yellow Country Teeth by CYHSY last week during my lunch break, when my boss came down stairs to get a snack from the machines and told me my music sucks. He is like 55yrs old, never listens to anything and has no idea about music in general. He worked his way up from a maintenance man to Director of Operations, but really has no clue about the entertainment biz today.

My (dear) step-Bro came from a more conservative/sheltered background from my bro & I. When our family first started becoming "blended" he was quite shocked by my bro & me, especially our music.

I'd put on some Dead Can Dance and he'd be all: "Nightmares tonight...!!!"

To him we were the Adams Family.

(Now he's the gay-freaky-actor-living-in-NYC)

Heh heh, my sister and I were the black sheep. In addition to general non-mainstream attitudes and tastes, we were the only half-breeds in the family.

Basically just that single, but it's a damned good song.

I'll give Fu credit, I got burned on that one. The only other times people have really gotten mad at my music was when KRNU played Andrew Bird, Devendra Banhart and I believe a live My Morning Jacket song in a row and when I made our crew listen to Sigur Ros's Agaetis Byrjun, Radiohead OK Computer and either The Wrens or Will Oldham while I was painting some stuff.

wife constantly rips on me for listening to whiney music with no melody and no talent in playing musical instruments. (then i ride in her car singing along to john mayer'n'cheese. :P ) she's usually ok for the most part when i put my 25k+ songs on random.
