Gonzaga looked pretty good beating Georgia Tech on Saturday night. If they can avoid foul trouble they could be a tough team the rest of the year.

I like how Washington is ranked #12 and Gonzaga is #13. Gonzaga handed Washington their only loss, while Gonzaga's only loss came from #1 Illinois.

Plus, Gonzaga's Bulldogs are the kings of the muthafuckin' West Coast*, baby.

(*Conference, that is.)

Not to make excuses, but I will----UW had just come off 3 games in 3 days(Utah, Oklahoma and Alabama) all of which they won to win the Alaska Shootout; they were missing their all-around best player, Brandon Roy; they were playing on Gonzaga's new home floor on it's opening night. Give me both squads at full strength on a neutral floor---I'd take Washington any day.

I'd forgotten you were a Dawg hater ;) At least we have the M's in common.

The Dawgs any day?

I don't think the Zags were 100% when the met UW but i don't think they need to be considering they've beat them 7 straight times.

Gonzaga has one real test left in OSU.

You had to point that out, eh? Yeah, Gonzaga has definitely been the class of the state over the past few years, but that will be ending soon. The UW currently has a top 5 recruiting class nationally for '05, and may already be better---if they play at Hec Ed, I think Washington wins that game. We'll never know---let's hope they meet up in the West Regional Final in March

Actually, I thought you were a WSU fan? How 'bout those Coug hoopsters!

I like the Cougars when it comes to football. Growing up in Spokane your only real choice for football was the Cougars. My dad and I had season tickets for quite a few years (Tim Rosenbach days) and then later in the mid-90's. I never got into the b-ball program because they were never on TV and never really did anything. When Gonzaga started making noise in the Dan Fitzgerald days, and then exploded in the Dan Monson days they kind of took Spokane by storm. I was never a Gonzaga fan before that except that my sister went to G-prep and my parents bought me all this Gonzaga Prep stuff when i was young. I used to wear it to school in England and kids would ask what it was and i'd tell them it was the Prep School to Gonzaga where John Stockton went to school. All Spokane had going for it was Ryne Sandberg, Mark Rypien, and John Stockton. I played those cards often when trying to make Spokane seem cool. It's not.

I do think that Dick Bennett will be able to make the Cougs more respectable within the Pac 10 but it may take a few more years.

Didn't Washington State get held to twenty-eight points for a game (not a half, a game -- you read that right) recently? And, yes, I think it was against Okla St, but, still... Daaaaayum!

Are you at all familiar with Dick Bennett's style? Most games they're involved in don't get into the 50's.

Yes. I am. Even recall reading about -- while all the way in Spain -- the epic national semifinal featuring the Spartans of Michigan State and Badgers of Wisconsin-Madison.

It was a horrible game.

The end.

Oops, you (and they) forgot about Missouri.

Great win against OSU, though. If they can get Touriaf healthy, they'll make some noise in March.

In other news, NC State poured in a whopping 10 points in the first half against St. Johns.

There was an article recently in the LA Times about the late Hank Gathers & how his ghost is still in the arena at LMU. I guess multiple people, including cheerleaders who didn't even know who he was have had incidents where they heard a bouncing ball only to find an empty court & stuff like that. But the article brought up that 149-115 LMU v Michigan game in 1990. 149 points, WSU might take 3 games to reach that. Imagine scoring 115 & losing

My vote next week has Gonzaga at #2 behind Illinois though you could make a case that they are #1.

Jeff Fryer nailed 12 three-pointers in that game. He attempted 22 in the game saw them play against Arkansas (w/ Lee Mayberry and Todd Day) the year before. I forget the final score, but it was a LOT of points. It was also Gathers' last NCAA tournament game. RIP Hank.

Also saw a ranked, 9th-seeded Ball State team beat Pitt (it was in Indy, so basically a home game); Illinois w/ Nick Anderson and Kendall Gill; and Louisville w/ Pervis Ellison in his senior year. What a great two days of basketball.

Quin Snyder. The Dave Wannstedt of college basketball coaches. Thoroughly mediocre, but on rare occasion, damned if he doesn't pull the big win.

Gonzaga looked horrible against Mizzou. It shouldn't have been that close. Turiaf looked awful.

bad night.

Jalen Rose is French!? Fuck 'im, then. Send 'im back to Old Europe.

And, no wonder he's been such a pussy in the NBA and hasn't played as rough and tumble as C-Web or Juwan, his Fab Five mates.
