I was going to start a work related thread, but I think Baseball is too important today to do so.

My Cardinals are taking on the Phillies. It will be Carpenter vs. Lieber.
I'll be curious to see how much offense the Phils have without Thome and if there has been any improvement in the Cards pitching, especially middle relievers.

Clemens met with Boston brass today. The possibilty of him coming back to Fenway just went up substantially. Weird to see him with Bill Hasselman and Al Nipper, cuz they both old farts now and Roger's still going.

The Phillies offense will be fine without Thome.

I fully agree with you, I don't actually care until October, although I keep track of the Cards and will watch them on tv when they play weekend afternoon game on FOX while I am at work.
It seems like a vast majority of teams are eliminated from playoff contention by late May, and that the only thing of interest after the Allstar game is watching one conference leading team with a huge lead before the break miraculously choke and miss the playoffs.

I've got beer, decked out in my Cubbie gear and I'm ready to get this sumbitch started!

And a "vast majority" of teams are NOT elimited by late May, the wild card keeps most teams in contention.

cubs up 5-0 after their 1/2 of the first inning!

although I think they put up a 14 spot or something on the first game last year and that didn't seem to matter much.

Those who say 162 games is too much are missing the point of baseball. It's a gradual ballet that's suposed to absorb your entire summer. If it doesn't, you aren't really a "baseball person."

NY 660am - MIKE AND THE DOG went on the air @ 4:54pm after the Mets game. At 4:57pm they laced into Billy Wagner for using "the same song as the greatest closer in the history of the sport! (Mariano Rivera)" Mets fans were standing in confusion as Mariano's theme song was blasted through a sold out SHEA. Quote dog" Geez Louiz!! Dosn't he have an I-POD?!?!?!, THE SAME SONG!!!?!?!?!"

Season started yesterday... the World Champs flexed their muscles and I got hailed on in a full out sprint for the green line. At least we got to see the ceremony dry.

OTM

162 games it what makes baseball the best of all sports. IMO.
