I love getting called to play bass on other people's albums. It's usually a last minute, hey come and save this session, our bassist sucks/is inebriated/maimed/arrested and the session is now, I know you've never heard the tune, we've got no charts, but we trust you, kind of call.

Those calls are great.

But I just got a "hey, we want you to play electric and upright on all 10 tracks of this album with this 21 piece latin orchestra, we've got charts and demos, we'll rehearse early on wednesdays, and the session will be chill and fun, scheduled on the last sat. in april, wanna do it? Cause we want you to do it, and the pay isn't some stupid lowball offer."

Imagine that, organized, put together, fair...

God, i feel all AFFIRMED and shit.

That'd be enough to lock me up right there. Even just one.

I know the band leader, good trumpeter, but he's got a bassist in his band...

Whatever.

Finally! This is a great gig you've lined up. Are you effectively finito with LS at this point?

Who knows? They're about to go on tour without me, i couldn't afford to go. But the album is about to come out. I'm not sure what the deal is. I was hoping to slug it out with them through december and see how it went after the album came out.

The thing is, i'm pretty sure I don't have this gig, i just have the recording session, which when you look at it is the sweet end of the deal.

Dig it.

I just got a promo copy of the LS album. I'm scared to listen to it. I don't dig the artwork.

There are 28 musicians credited in the liner notes.

I think I'm about to go get bummed out.

Then again, I'm on the album, and we were all pretty certain that no album would ever be made.

And experience and exposure and if it sucks, hey, not your fault. Blame one of the other 27 guys. If it's great, you were the dude that bought it all together. Like lebowski's rug. You can't lose either way.

Also, you "just got a "hey, we want you to play electric and upright on all 10 tracks of this album with this 21 piece latin orchestra, we've got charts and demos, we'll rehearse early on wednesdays, and the session will be chill and fun, scheduled on the last sat. in april, wanna do it? Cause we want you to do it, and the pay isn't some stupid lowball offer," so you're going places with or without 'em.

Right? Right.

I have no idea what to make of this album. This is going to take alot of time to digest.

I probably shouldn't say anything else.

But you're going to, right?

Maybe I'll just YSI it to the brave and let the people state their thoughts.

We'll have to come up with code in case anyone's looking, like the label or management, or fans, or bandmembers.

Luckily we don't have many fans, and no one comes here...

Maybe we should have this dialogue via e-mail...

Great stuff, Phil. Your last rehearsal is my last night in town, but we'll make up time.

count me among the brave if you get around to that. i love hearing your shit. and i came around on that last track you put up after ditching the "that thing you do" vibe for taking it as more of an EC sound. perception is everything...

I've never been more excited to see someone at the Grammys. Mars looked right at home on that red carpet.
