I'm a little disappointed that Carpenter gave up four runs after the Cards built such a big lead, since it shows the Cards will most likely have to win the division again with decent pitching and tons of power hitting.

I don't think there is anything like spending a day at a baseball park, but I still think 162 is a bit much. The NBA season is 82 games, which I think is about right for any major sports league that has 7 game playoffs. I don't think it would hurt MLB too much to cut it back a little after they moved to interleague play and made the rule that the league that wins the allstar game gets homefield advantage. If they were to keep it up at the 162 mark, they should make more interleague games to have more games between the possible World Series teams.

What happened to the Braves after the 7th. They were cruising to an easy victory and almost blew the game. I would have laughed alot had they choked.

Mariano has been using ENTER SANDMAN for about 8 years now...I have heard Wagner has used it in the past with his old club, but coming to play in NY, even Met fans know that the song is reserved for Mariano, so i it comes across as a weak idea....petty yes, but still....

I'm waiting for someone to use Jack Nicholson's line from A Few Good Men for Paul "The Truth" Pierce.

petty? more like pathetic.
that's the most generic obvious song for a closer to come out to, how could anyone lay claim to it?

Its not a matter of laying clai to it....Its a matter of, for New York baseball fans, (Met or Yankee), when you hear Enter Sandman, you think Mariano Rivera...Plain and simple....a free agent comes in, to the 'other' NY team, and thier closer uses the sdame song, comes across as silly. that's all...
Mets PR people should have said something as well....NY Radio has made abigger deal of it then they should have, but it does make Wagner and the Mets look silly.

petty? more like pathetic.

It's all about Trevor Hoffman and "Hell's Bells" anyway. Beats "Enter Sandman" anytime.

Dodgers didn't win...Can't believe they almost came back. We've got a real nickel-and-dime offense going on

but I'll be damned if we won't be setting a few tables if Nomar ever gets healthy - was scratched today for "sore ribs"...

I have to say it was good to see the Padres beat the Giants pretty bad yesterday, although throwing syringes at Bonds was unbelievably classless. It's kind of scary to think someone could get that many sharp objects into a stadium on opening day.

I'm not an A's fan or Yankee Hater, but I was hoping the Cards blowout would have been the biggest one on the day.
