I really wish the Democrats had the votes to censure him. It's a shame something like this can't take out half of the administration.

I get so excited when I read things like this, thinking surely something will happen to Bush (impeachment, anyone?), but then get a sour feeling in my stomach because I know NOTHING will happen.

Bush should give himself and that pedophile from Homeland Security a few Presidential Medals of Freedom.

yeah, we can't even okay a censure, so that ain't gonna happen. The odds of Rummy resigning is becoming a very real possibility though.

If the Democrats somehow take over Congress in 2006, I think you'll see a strong possibility of impeachment, or at least moves towards censure.

Right now I think they're just riding the wave of Republican tomfoolery until November. Kind of a "meh" strategy, but I cross my fingers every night and hope that it works.

yeah, but who cares if they get a censure? it's the equivalent of a finger wagging.

Would it really behoove the Dems to go on the "Impeach!" offensive if they somehow regain control of the House?

Rummy has to resign when it doesn't look like it's an admission of screwing things up in Iraq. When will that be? :)

No it would be counter productive and basically put the 2 sides at further odds...so look for that on or around Jan 21, 2007 if that snowball stays cold.

Clinton's impeachment happened in 1998-99, so he was a lame duck.
I'd say it was fair game. Also the Iran-Contra hearings were held from 86-87, and could have easily resulted in some form of censure or impeachment.

Censure is a little bit more than a finger wag, I think it is as close to a vote of no confidence as you get here in America. It would basically tell Bush and his cronies they are no longer wanted or worthy of power and that they won't be holding any major positions of power again.

I didn't agree with impeaching Clinton either.

But it's the same damn thing. The loser's are so intent on making the winner's pay.

Agreed, although the Dems would most likely have to be the winners in 06 to pull it off.

did anyone in this country actually think Clinton should've been impeached? I mean outside of zealots and GOP staffers? I mean, it just seemed like that was one of those issues that nobody really cared about until it was drilled into their heads for a few weeks.

i'd say there's a shot at impeachment if the dems retake the house. there's so many slowly building scandals in this administration that there's a real possibility dems could come up with a smoking gun (er.. more smoking guns). if people like waxman and conyers were to get subpoena power they could blow the lid off any one of them. at the very least, holding big public hearings would get more people talking about it. there's plenty of crimes perpetrated by this adminsitration that don't put dems in a problematic position on national security (i.e. katrina, war profiteering, lobbyist access, signing non-identical versions of bills, etc.)

plus, the dems retaking congress would be incredibly damaging to bush politically--the conventional wisdom becomes "bush policies lost republicans the house." and at least part of the reason that nothing ever gets done about these scandals is that the republican controlled congress works overtime to cover bush's ass. there's no telling what could happen in such a changed political climate.

a guy can dream anyway.

I did, and still do. Dude committed perjury and obstructed justice. Unlike the popular revisionist view, the impeachment was not about sex with an intern.
