I had a steak, if I recall correctly.

4/6: The Deadening

(I whole-heartedly apologize for bitching / venting. Yay music! etc)

I am just about to friggin cry like a little schoolgirl. I need an internship. Bad. Everybody gets one, they're uber-important for getting experience and exposure, they PAY YOU MONEY all summer, etc. It's gotta happen. But these lame-ass companies can't find their phones (nor their assholes) with two hands, a mirror, and a flashlight.

COMPANY 1: Some consulting co out in CA. Very interested in me, good interviews on the phone, all's well. Then, nothing for a month. After x-mas I start calling / writing, can't get anyone. I finally get a secretary somewhere, and she assures me it's all gonna be taken care of. I get some new guy calling me at 7:30 on a friday night, who has no idea who I am, what I was talking about / looking for, where I am, etc. Square One. And even he never followed up when he said he would. It was early, folks said "forget 'em... if that's how they run."

COMPANY 2: Steak dinner, an interview, no dice.

COMPANY 3, 4, 5: Interviews with HRbots, no dice.

COMPANY 6: Boring industrial co in Chicago. But they're super nice, well-organized, proactive, good shit. I'm stoked. Interview, then 4 weeks of no response ("I'll know within 3 weeks.") Then I write them back twice, and get turned down.

COMPANY 7: Big company in Seattle, everyone knows them. We have a connection there, I like them, would love to work there for the summer. I tug the string, get a response, get a phone interview, "we'll know in 2 weeks." Tuesday of week 3 (this week) I write the girl who interviewed me, to avoid bugging our contact. Nothing. Today, a canned email from HR saying "the position you were applying for is no longer being offered." What in the holy fuck does that mean? I gotta start all over?!? Where's the call? Where's the email from the girl I talked to?! I'm fucking disappointed. And I can't spell.

COMPANY 8: Green, socially-responsible, dreamy bio-tech firm, Boston and here, not too big yet. Oh man I wanna work with them. They contacted us, asked for me, took waaaay too long but set up a phone interview, sorta. They guy called a few days ago, he was brisk but knowledgable, said HR will call by friday. No call yet.

***Oh and the kicker to top today off... My full ride is gone next year, due to increased class size next year and much higher costs. No insurance for me and my wife, huge loans, etc.

AND I'M OUT OF FUCKING BEER AND MONEY. I have, maybe, $3.

If there were ever a time for some Californian can-showing, this is it.

No shit. At this point, pride is getting scarce.

I could tooootally dress that up into an mba internship on paper.

the college minute this week was eating cookies smothered with nutella and ground coconut, drinking ~60 cups of tea between 3 people in 2 nights, and turning the last two marlboro reds into 6 or 7 cigs by emptying out the tobacco and rolling them into new ones. yikes.

My roommate had the same thing happen to him when he was in MBA school. Sucks. Especially when some asshole idiot turns up with an awesome internship. Keep trying something will shake out. What about the school? Shouldn't they be doing some work to make sure all of their students get good internships?

Still there, but I haven't visited it yet though. Just discovered Carousel Lounge, though - did you ever drink there?

This is a good avenue as well. I did my internship with the school--small business consulting--managed three engagements over the summer.

Here's the kicker--instead of a "salary", I got a "tuition rebate", i.e. TAX FREE!

Cap'n, just say the word and I'll fly to either the companies, or the school, and start ripping people's arms off. Seriously. Dis some boolshit.

The school does more than its share. They live and die by our placement / salary stats. But they don't bring my kind of people in much.. all the Haliburton, P&G, Kraft, and Steel Mills you can handle. If you want excitement, especially in a smaller company, you kinda have to dig on your own. Cold call. Blows.

Still no word from the big Seattle company today. Headache increasing. Loog, make these people employ me.

I did not. I haven't turned anyone down. P&G didn't want Supply Chain folk this year, and the others didn't offer me anything. Apparently I have Employment cooties.

Word of your involvement in Obner has leaked and you are now blacklisted.

I begin to wonder.

Does Obner have summer mba internships? Cuz if not, I'm screwed.

if you are interested I can get your resume passed around here. our external hiring has really slowed down but we still have some flexibility around interns.

Lee Corso?!? Hard to imagine him ever getting ANY sloppy seconds, even if delivered by pre-Bandit Burt. All of Herbstreit's scraps go straight to Chris Fowler, anyway.
