Mojo’s 50 Greatest British Tracks was assembled taking 1967 – the year The Kinks released Waterloo Sunset – as year zero. Only one track per artist was allowed and each track was picked for its decidedly British lyrical or musical flavor. I collected all tracks (with the help of Frosted) and made a set of mixes.

Disc 1.

01. Bealtes – Penny Lane
02. Small Faces – Itchycoo Park
03. Pink Floyd – Arnold Layne
04. Cat Stevens – Matthew And Son
05. Kaleidoscope – Mr. Small The Watch Repair Man
06. Keith West – Excerpt From A Teenage Drama
07. Van Morrison – Madame George
08. The Pretty Things – SF Sorrow Is Born
09. Bonzo Dog Band – My Pink Half Of The Drain Pipe
10. Fairport Convention – Who Knows Where The Time Goes
11. Nick Drake – At The Chime Of A City Clock
12. Vashti Bunyan – Diamond Day
13. Mott The Hoople – All The Young Dudes
14. Clifford T Ward – Home Thoughts From Abroad
15. Genesis – I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)
16. The Who – 5:15
17. Roy Harper – When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease

Disc 2

01. Sex Pistols – God Save The Queen
02. Ian Dury – Plaistow Patricia
03. Television Personalities – Part-Time Punks
04. Kate Bush – Wuthering Heights
05. Dire Straits – Sultans Of Swing
06. Sham 69 – Hurry Up Harry
07. Poet And The Roots – All Wi Doin’ Is Defendin’
08. Squeeze – Up The Junction
09. The Clash – Something About England
10. The Fall – English Scheme
11. The Jam – That’s Entertainment
12. The Specials – Ghost Town
13. Madness – Our House
14. Billy Bragg – A New England
15. Elvis Costello – Shipbuilding
16. Yeah Yeah Noh – There’s Another Side To Mrs. Quill
17. Pet Shop Boys – Suburbia

Disc 3

01. The Smiths – Panic
02. The Pogues – A Rainy Night In Soho
03. Robet Wyatt – Pigs… (In There)
04. Morrissey – Every Day Is Like Sunday
05. XTC – Chalkhills And Children
06. Inspiral Carpets – This Is How It Feels
07. Ruthless Rap Assassins – And It Wasn’t A Dream
08. Blur – For Tomorrow
09. Saint Etienne – Hobart Paving
10. Suede – The Wild Ones
11. Pulp – Common People
12. Roots Manuva – Witness (One Hope)
13. The Liberitines – Time For Heroes
14. The Streets – Dry Your Eyes
15. Kaiser Chiefs – I Predict A Riot
16. Arctic Monkeys – A Certain Romance

Notes - In the mag the songs are presented exactly in this order - chronologically. I just split them into discs as evenly as I could.
If you are on slsk, my name is borthome. If not, I'll try to get a YSI up sometimes this weekend.

And Panic as The Smiths best single? Also, I like the Arctic Monkeys and all but even I'm getting annoyed seeing them on 'Best of all Time' lists. That's fucking ridiculous.

PEOPLE - please read the introduction. This is not a list of the best songs ever made in England. This is a list songs that have a "British lyrical or musical flavor". Songs about cricket, the Queen, England or specific places in England, going to the pub or the loo.

The Pogues are not British, nor is Elvis Costello.

I guess since they both lived in London for a time, they've been claimed.

Nothing more British than Sultans Of Swing, apparently.

Still they forgot some key elements even if those criteria you mentioned are what they went by.

and if they went by other criteria you still have to include

radiohead
joy division
and bloc party in my opinion over some of the other artists.
