To me they are both guilty of the same crimes.

Yeah...kinda. But, I think WM does it with a lot more conviction and fwiw, decidedly more interesting bass playing.

Actually, it's mostly the bass playing that I like.

Going to see WM tomorrow night.

I'll say it: I have not seen Jet.

Musically, I find Wolfmother a bit less offensive than Jet.

But then, having seen Wolfmother at the BDO, the singer pisses me off with all of his rock posturing. The posturing itself isn't the problem, but it seems so put on and fake rather than him getting into the music.

In terms of the saturation coverage both get/got here for being successful o'seas, both are inescapable. Seriously, it's like them being successful in the US somehow validates the Aus music industry, so all the critics and Triple J fall over themselves trying to outdo the praise.

So, uh, yeah, not a fan of either

see, they actually get more of an 'actively hate' from me, though that's probably a function of how much I have to hear of them

I didn't even bother seeing them at BDO.

I also am not a fan of the following crimes committed by aforementioned bands:

-wearing scarves in non-scarf weather
-wearing suits with no shirt underneath
-ridiculous onstage faux rock 'n roll posing
-stolen riffs

The ass-kissing that they get from Triple J just pisses me off, because though Triple J aren't exactly the tastemakers as far as music goes, their monopoly of the airwaves means they do decide what 'alternative' 14-30 year olds listen to. I'm glad The Drones won the Australian Music Prize over Wolfmother, because at least there are some factions in AUstralian music that celebrate something other than mediocrity.

Wolfmother were pretty fun to watch at SXSW. As for their ep, it's alright but a lot of it sounds recycled. I do like the organ playing though.

Well I didn't actually see them at the BDO either (for a lot of the reasons you listed), I just saw some of the Channel V coverage. Which was propbably a good idea given they would have attracted all of those tosspots wearing flags as capes and acting like fuckwits.

With you on the Triple J thing. I can't believe that Kingsmill can still defend Wolfmother with a straight face. Then again, this is the guy that allows crimes against humanity like Butterfingers to defile my ears...

I thought when i heard wolf mothers album at our radio station that it was good nothing special though, however i will say it stood out ahead of Jet, i just can't see Dimension being near as terrible as Are You Gonna Be My Girl?

Fuck, I'll take Jet's nutless rip-off of the Stones and ACDC over Wolfmother's modern rawk rip-off of Black Sabbath and Led Zep. Anyday.

Jet dioes a piss-poor job at trying to sound like early Who, while Wolfmother does a pretty legit job at aping Sabbath. I don't like my who fucked with, but after hearing so many bands take a dump trying to sound lie Sabbath (hey Dead Meadow - fuck you) i'm all game for this....

just picked up a ticket for their 5/18 chicago date. day before mogwai. i'd better invest in some good earplugs...

Didn't Jet pretty much steal the exact riff from "Lust for Life" by the Stooges?

Usually an album has some merit if it gets you guys this stirred up. I need to check it out, although I didn't think Jet was anything special beyond a couple casual listens.

don't bother.

I feel i am qualified to speak on this topic moreso than most people here, simply because Wolfmother have been pretty big here for at least two years now. All i can say is, out of everyone i know with good music taste who liked them a couple of years ago, none of them still take Wolfmother seriously. They're just another Jet to everyone now.

You guys will understand in a few months time when its all sunk in and you realise a band like this can't possibly have any longevity.
