88% ads and 15% content makes for a crappy music website. what is it that you don't understand? i mean, if it was 15% ads, 79% content, and 9% stuff like a contest to win some Ben Harper merchandise, I could understand, but for a while www.cmj.com just didn't have the means to produce a captivating site.

yeah, what (apart from a horrible horrible name) IS wrong with MBD? i hadn't heard them before opening this thread, but they sound pretty good. certainly better than the screamo band i expected them to be.

Nothing is wrong with MBD, at least that I'm aware of---I've never heard them. I just find it humorous when new posters slip a relatively unknown band into a list of well known acts and ask for RIYL's based on that list. That was my only point.

Apparently they aren't THAT unknown, considering basically everyone here except you has heard of them...

I didn't say I hadn't heard of them, just that I hadn't heard them. And I also did say relatively unknown, and there's no question that they're relatively less known than Arcade Fire and Grandaddy.

You'll learn quickly the importance of reading comprehension around here ;) Someone is always more than willing to point it out to you.

actually how is the new murder by death cd?

not a huge fan of them, but i do like the song killbot 2000 or whatever the heck its called. for some reason, they opened for a shit ton of bands i saw in the last year or so (hey mercedes, braid reunion, minus the bear, etc, etc)

Hey, now cut that out. I'm not that much older than you. You're at least 30-something yourself---we're in the same decade. :)

For the record, I'm 29!

For the record, my favorite albums this year are by Chumbawamba, Rose Melberg, Hunchback, and the Twilight Singers. Not very indie rock band-ish. Oh yeah, and I like the new Built To Spill, so there ya go.

Ok this arguement is extremely retarded... which is way I don't want to lose it. I'm saying that your two percentages ad up to 103%, and 100% is as high as you go... unless you go into business and they till you to give 110%. But that's business.

Oh yeah, and don't say "omfg you can go up to a billion percent" because you can't. Other than saying "this cd is 200% better than that cd" Which is like saying "twice as good." Wheeeennnnnnnn your talking about something, it is 100%, unless you are comparing.

THE END.

And thanks for all the band suggestions, people, keep it up.

menomena is a good, recent indie staple for me. also, i've been into field music a lot lately. kinda beatles-y/shins-y pop. i think it's one of guys from the futureheads but i could be way off on that.

no none of the futureheads are in field music. i found them okay, but lacking in sound quality. i just thought they would sound better if they added a bassist or something.

actually, now that i think about it. i'm pretty sure there's at least one futurehead in the band. having listened to it again today, damn, it's a really good album.

edit: sctratch that. replace it with ex-member is the singer for the futureheads and ex-futurehead is the band's drummer. my bad.

You're a clever man.

Or 3% of the content had ads. Such as "This band is so great, but not as great Peter Pan peanut butter..."

You might like Wolf Parade, Spoon and The National. Those were some of my favorites from 2005. I don't have any 2006 favorites yet.

Welcome to the board, by the way. There are a lot of people that know a lot about music so if you stick around I'm sure you'll find lots of bands to check out.

Edit: Just listen to the freakin' mix CD I made you this year!

It wasn't as impressive as last year's... but I did really like The National song on there...
