My brother (Rough Gem) might be unhappy that I am telling you all this, but I'm guessing he won't mind.

I went home this weekend to visit both of my parents for Easter, since we are moving next weekend and my mom decided not to come up and visit her sister after being diagnosed with hyperthyroid disease.
It was a good weekend until yesterday afternoon. I went to church with my mom at 9am, while my sisters went at 11am. My brother works at a local radio station on sundays and was going to be off at 12:30pm.
Just after my brother got back from work, we were getting ready to eat an Easter meal. My mother and oldest sister were attempting to expand our kitchen table to prepare food on it, when my mother passed out and began convulsing. Recently she has been getting dizzy spells and has an eradic heart beat.
I instantly called 911 and we spent the better part of the afternoon at the local emergency room. After an EKG, CAT Scan and blood work, they still can't find what is causing it. They gave her a heart event recorder to monitor her heart rate during the dizzy episodes. She started having one last night and called the hospital like she was instructed to so they could check the recorder via telephone. They told her to come back in for observation overnight, since none of us were still in Norfolk at that point.
I'd love to be back there and waiting on the results, but her medical bills are going to be quite steep after this weekend, so she's going to need all the financial support we can give her.

Damn.
I'm sorry to hear that your family is going through all that.
My thoughts are with you.
And I hope it's something relatively easy to treat.

i'm sorry to hear that the government doesn't pay for this kind of stuff in America. That's almost as sad as the illness itself.

Gosh, how very scary. Your poor mom. Is there no one near home to be there for your mom during this time? It may relieve some of the stress she's feeling.

Also, does your mom not have health insurance? Depending on her income level, she may be able to request for a Social Service Worker to be assigned to her and begin the process of requesting assistance for government aid.

All my best to your family.

My brother goes to college close by, and we would have stayed down there if they had decided to keep her in the hospital after the emergency room visit.
She does not currently have insurance, but will qualify for medicare in July. My oldest sister works for the State Health and Human Services Department, so she will do all there is possible to have people assist my mom.
I will keep everyone up to date once I actually hear something today.

Wow sorry to hear about that event, and the stress you and your family will be facing. Will be thinking of your family.

I'm back in Lincoln with an update.
The operation went well yesterday. They did an angiogram or cardiogram this morning to check for a blockage, and could not find one.
She is now at home resting. She won't be able to work for at least another week, possibly longer and she can't drive for three weeks.
They put her on some high blood pressure medication and also gave her a trial package of ambien to help her sleep initially.
The mother of one of my brother's friends is going to visit her twice a day, and one of my friend's mom's lives very close to our house and will visit as well.
My Aunt wanted to come down and stay for a bit, but my mom really doesn't want her bothering her constantly. She had a meeting with a woman who is going to try to get her assistance to pay for some or all of her medical bills.
