I forget work the second I walk out the door. I've accrued my vacation time and I get about 40 hours of "personal time off" every year.

If I have the time and I feel like taking off I do it and don't think twice.

I take care of people's shit in my office when they are out so I expect them to do the same.

Me too, Derris. I do not take my work home with me, nor do I think about it constantly when I'm out sick or on vacation or just away from work. I have no problem putting in the extra time when needed, or covering for someone else, but my time is my time. I don't understand people who don't have a life outside of work.

Its cos you have a job that let's you do that.

I am on call pretty much 24-7, though having to do anything sundays is quite rare.

That said, I probably work less in your average "8 hour day" than a lot of people...but much of my time is spent working/bullshitting/haranguing people.

I don't know what's better or worse, cos this is the only job I've had outside of a PR thing in DC for like 8 mos.

I can't recall ever calling in sick in my life. I just feel like if I can work, then I might as well go. Plus they pay out our unused sick days for the year in January.

No problems taking vacation days, though.

Hey now!

It's really hard to use 3 weeks of vacation when you only work 3 days a week.

At the first job I had I felt a bit guilty taking a day off, but that was because they were an awesome old couple, and since a lot of the time it was just the 3 of us it meant they had to work harder/weren't able to get much time for lunch/get paperwork + repairs done.

But then, I don't think I ever called in sick with them. It was usually a planned absence for a sporting or school commitment, which they were cool with.

When I get a "proper" job I doubt I'll feel guilty because vacation and sick days will be structured into the contract (well, hopefully, in our brave new world of IR reform) so they can't possibly complain if I'm using them

seriously. i never really take time off work because of actual illness and i haven't really ever just missed one out of the blue that i hadn't gotten covered in advance. i'm always reliable on that sort of thing. but if i were to, i wouldn't feel guilty. it would just ruin whatever reason there is that i called out for.

at my old job it was never really an issue either. no one ever called up and yelled at you. there was no reason to feel guilty.

Check this shit out...I fell asleep during a meeting here at work yesterday, and had to be awoken by the CEO. We all ended up having a good laugh, believe it or not, but my wife was REALLY pissed when I told her. Today, I brought in one of those energy drinks, and the CEO got a big laugh out of it.

I'm gonna get Squirrgled, aren't I?

That's really funny. We have this girl here at work who falls asleep at her desk and starts snoring. Very funny stuff.

Hell, tuesday I ended up having to stay most of the day because my boss was out sick, so I worked most of her shift while we got the rest covered by our part time girl.

So today when I had to take my son to a morning dr appt my boss told me to just take the rest of the day off since I worked for her on tuesday.

Awesome. Hell I actually felt guilty about it for a while and asked her ten times as I left this morning " are you sure?? You don't want me to come in later??" And she kept laughing and told me to just go enjoy the day damnit. hahaa
