So...need some art for my place. When I lived in New Orleans, I had this great signed print of the French Quarter in the rain, loved it. Due to extenuating circumstances it is no longer with me. So...found this on ebay, which I really like

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1

11 bidders, I expect the price will double. Thing is, I have no idea if I am getting a good price, bad price, or fair. All I know is I like it. I am sure it will be another $50 min. to frame it, and while I am ok with shelling out some cash for good art, I don't want to break the bank here

Thoughts?

Make your own.

Most of the shit on my walls is crap I made. Mostly photographs, and I'm not getting any calls from National Geographic. Framed 'em myself too.

I also have a wall that is mostly plaques/awards 'n' shit, because I kick so much butt I kick ass.

Or buy some from cemeterypolka. She could use the cash, and it might be a pretty interesting investment.

Jewels, too. He's got some good stuff up for sale.

there's no rule of thumb.
if you're buying something for personal pleasure vs. an investment you have to decide what it's worth for you to pay.

If you can get a 36"x 24" framed for 1/2 a Franklin, let me know who you use. 5 years ago, a similar sized print cost me almost 4 times that much matted and framed.

as an artist, allow me to suggest that you pay until it hurts. oh, and also, buy my art instead.

I'm with the "make-it-yourself" crowd. These are some of my paintings - click to enlarge.

hey jerkstores, not everyone can make their own good arts. also, isn't hanging up all our own work kind of like listening to your own music all the time?

Thrillhouse, i remember that site. I think I made some appreciative and yet crude comments about your girlfriend, not realizing that she was your girlfriend. She's still the cutest out of that whole bunch.

I could be totally mistaken...

If all the artwork in your place is your own, that might be odd...but if I didn't hang it up, no one else would.

And thanks for calling me a jerkstore.

Jewels,
I like live on stage 3 and all the self samples very much. Wave the Flag 1 is very good too.

7 years ago i bought a really cool photograph which was printed onto a piece of wood and the shalacked. I don't really undesrtand teh process, but it was cool. I've always loved the piece and it was well worth the $20 i paid for it.

but it gets better, this year the photographer who made the piece is showing in the Whittney Bienial!!!!!!

so cool.
