This is interesting, but I don't buy it.
I have heard he was really fired by Nebraska for having an affair with either a member of his secretarial staff or a female student, and that his alcoholism might have played a role in it as well.
His wife was very defensive of him, and since everything was really hush hush about his firing, no one will really ever know.
He might have been drugged, but that is no excuse to get behind the wheel if you feel drunk.

Shades of Larry Eustachy at Iowa State, although it seems his "philandering" was more drunken pawing at fraternity parties on the campi at which the Cyclones played away matches.

Another difference is that Eustachy was a great coach.

I though Solich was a good coach, he went from 7-7 to 10-3 with basically the same talent. His only fault was that he was too loyal to some of the old Osborne staff that should have retired a few years earlier like Defensive Coordinator Charlie McBride did after 1999. Barney Cotton who is now the OC at Iowa State and Bo Pellini who is the DC at LSU had really jumpstarted the program in one year. They also still had Turner Gill now the Head Coach at Buffalo and one of the Defensive coaches for North Carolina now.
Solich isn't the recruiter Callahan and Company are, but he is probably twice the coach Callahan is. Ohio upset Pittsburgh this year by virtually the same margin as an unbeaten Nebraska team playing Pitt at their lowest point of the season.

Shouldn't this thread be titled, "For the Ohioans"? ;)

I agree that Solich is a pretty good coach, but I don't really miss him at all.
