I read this story in the Stars and Stripes today. Some couple in Missouri, I think, set up a scam claiming that they had septuplets and were in dire financail straights. Some good sumaritains even set up a web site sollicting donation to help this family. The story reported that a van had been donated, gift certificates, money, and baby supplies. A local real estate agent was even trying to arrange for the "new family" to give a bigger home. It turns out it was all a hoax. How stupid can this two be to think that no one would catch on to the fact that there in fact were no septuplets. I tried to see if I could find a link to these story on Stars and Stripes website, but the current stories aren't post on the website yet. Has anyone else heard this. I mean really

I had the exact same thought as you - how did tne possibly think they could get away with it? They would have had family/friends who would have realised what was up, and as the report said, it started getting pretty obvious when the couple refused to have photos taken with the babies and tried to gag the local hospital.

If they go to jail they'll get what they deserve

I had kind of the same thoughts as you guys - but at the same time I thought to myself that it was just a matter of time until something like this happened. Just think about all of the stuff that is typically given away and how people bend over backwards to help parents of multiple birth babies - something like that would seem hard for a con artist to refuse.

They had better do some time for this - something gives me the feeling that they probably already have a checkered past.

a lot of this going around - people last year pretending their daughter had cancer (and telling her she did), some lady recently pretending she had cancer. these scams are like a... cancer... um... on our society.

Had one or two of the cancer scams up here in the past few years too.

And I'm sorry, but these 6-8 baby-havin dealies (the ones that actually occur, that is) are always, and I mean 99.99999%, due to fertility drugs. It's not a miracle, it's not a blessing from the baby jesus, it's friggin pregnancy drugs gone awry. That doesn't mean they don't need help, or that it's not wonderful for them, but it was in some way ELECTIVE, too. I'm not sure I see that fact reflected in the teary eyes of housewives everywhere everytime this happens (every few months).

A couple in Chicago had quints and there was a huge benefit for them. I didn't give them any money because I thought it was ridiculous to take these drugs and not expect three or more babies. Like, you've got the money to get these drugs, but you can't financially support the outcome? But, on the flip side, if you try forever to get pregnant and then you find out you've got five instead of one, are you really going to abort a few? I wouldn't. Eh, weird situation.

This couple that lied must come from some shady backgrounds, because if my family ever found out I did some shit like this, they'd disown me.
