i always hold doors open for people but get annoyed if they don't say thanks or something.

i stopped giving out spare change a long time ago though.

how did she get on the ground in the first place? some old people are like, "i can do it myself!!" and don't let you help.

we were riding our bikes on the beach, and a woman flagged us down. she asked us for help, and said that her mother had fallen over trying to touch a bird. we walked over and she was sitting on the ground, not hurt, but scared a bit. the daughter couldn't pick her up [the daughter was in her 50's].

funny thing is, the old woman was nearly deaf. we kept saying "ok, ready on 3 and we'll lift you up"....her daughter was like "she can't hear you"

I was at 7-11 today, and this guy in his mid-60s was coming out and held the door, but I was just far enough away to have to double time so he didn't have to stand there all day. As I hop up to the door, I say, "Thanks a lot." and grab the door and step in the store…

Almost plowing into what appeared to be his wife.

In my defense, the glare off the window made it impossible to see inside, and I was trying to hurry so he didn't hold the door all afternoon. I was laughing once I got inside.

One time, in San Francisco, I came out of the Safeway near the Giants stadium and some really old woman asked me if I would help her across the street to the train station. It was EXTREMELY windy this day and it almost knocked me off my feet. I can see why she needed help. I obliged of course. I think it's funny: you know the old thing about helping old ladies across the street. I never knew where that came from until now--san francisco.

My friend has/had pictures to prove it, too.

I have done nice things for people a lot. However, I don't believe it has anything to do with karma or anything of the sort. I have had way too many bad experiences to believe that.

OPA! say one thing about me and my mom's dog and I will maim you(metaphorically, over the internet).

Try to open doors and assist with people who need it (pregnant, old, or otherwise).
Make an effort to tell people when they look nice or comment on their haircut or whatever-- I'm always amazed how often people appreciate this.
Say thank you often.
Let people turn into the lane with their cars in front of me, because I hope to get the favor in return when I need it. I always wave acknowledgement when I do.
Leave generous tips for waiters/waitresses.

I'd rather be a nice guy than an asshole. So, I guess I'd rather be a nail than a hammer?

Yeah, I'm a raging smart ass, but I still like to think I'm nice otherwise.
