Name your city first, then your favorite local take-out spots.

West Palm Beach

Taqueria Guerrero - without a doubt the best restaurant in WPB! a total hole-in-the-wall, with some of the best, traditional Mexican food you'll ever eat. Stuffed burritos, slammin' shrimp & tortilla soup, and steak fajitas so good they'd make a vegan break.

Wattana Thai - Squid curry so fresh it's jumpin' off the plate! Small place [seats maybe 40] run by a Thai family. You can order the curry "chef hot", and the freshly made spring rolls will get you started nicely.

Don Ramon's - Authentic Cuban cuisine. There's another Cuban joint less than a block away called Havana [they serve24 hrs, and their espresso is THE PAIN!], but all the locals know that Don serves up the real deal. HUGE portions cooked fresh, and the atmosphere is dead perfect.

I can't really advocate any take out places, since I like to eat out, but this is a place I like to go that offers take out.

Yia Yia's: New York Style Pizza place located downtown by all the bars. It has the best selection of import beers and frequently changes up what is available on tap. You can also put about anything you'd want on a pizza besides some unique combos they have created.

Tubby Dog - Nothing beats a hot dog place with a decent selection of whiskey and beer, with a great jukebox full of indie and punk rock.

I went there on the way home from work and got a "Pilate" dog. It's a Kosher dog with bacon on top in a cross, with ketchup stigmata and... I kid you not... blessed hosts.

portland, or

Cha Cha Cha - great burritos - nice fresh ingredients, spicy, cheap.

Mississippi Pizza - maybe my favorite pizza in town - at least in my hood

Bangkok Thai - not a nice looking place and not in a cool location, but good, cheap, and big portions

Portillo's ain't too bad out here--we usually eat there, though.

For one-shots, there's an awesome little Italian sandwich shop near our office called Avanti.

They deliver between about about Irving Park to Howard, the lake to Kedzie.
When I lived in the city -- 7 years ago -- I used to order from there a couple of times a week. I put the number up there from memory. Yeah, it's permanently implanted in my brain! Try:
•Palermo Beef (italian beef, topped w/ mushrooms and mozzerella, then baked... worth the extra couple of cents to get it on garlic bread!)
•Chicken Vesuvio (apparently, according to several local restaurant critics,it's the best in the city -- better even than any fancy sit-down place)
•Linguine Marinara w/ Calimari (excellent, rich marinara sauce and the calimari is cooked just right)
•Rib Tips (the fave of most of my friends)

24 hour bakery en haut du Cours Mirabeau
Has everything a French bakery should have as well as pizza, all sorts of pastries, sandwiches, fougasse (this big mound of doughy baked goodness that can be stuffed with a variety of things including olives, spinach, bacon, roquefort), and tons of other incredible stuff.

Snack Samos, rue de la Verrerie
Standard shawarma joint but so damn good. 5 euro for a plate of fries, a greek sandwich, and a drink. Just incredible. Hold the cabbage and ask for extra white sauce.

Tizai, rue d'Italie
Thai place run by a family, great take out lunch formule. 5 euros for a huge helping of rice and your choice of simmered beef, chicken curry, or shrimp curry. Cover that shit with sriracha sauce and you're good to go.

I wish we had a really good Hot Dog place in our city. There's a diner that serves some decent ones, but not a specialty Hot Dog spot.

Johnny V's Classic Cafe -- 84th & National, West Allis -- fairly typical diner fare, though recent years have seen an increase in the "heart-healthy" menu -- also, CONQUER THE KING, a/k/a the LooGAR Special (ten pancakes, eight eggs, six slices of bacon, four slices of toast, four sausage links, three slices of Canadian bacon, two slices of Texas Toast), in an hour and you win a tee-shirt ("I conquered the King of Johnny V's!") and have a photo taken for display on the restaurant's walls

Comet Cafe -- Prospect & Irving, Milwaukee -- expanded in the last year to twice what it had been in the prior ten years -- has excellent home-style fried food (chicken fried steak, home-fries), as well an extensive vegan menu -- good tunes on in-house "i-stereo"

Pizza Man -- Oakland & North -- axiomatic, but also, has best wine list (all domestics, though) in city

Golden Gyros -- 73rd & Lincoln -- middling burger, better kebabs... but, the fries are off-the-chain -- buy, buy, buy

jade garden -- awesome cheap vietnamese food delivered directly to your door.

local burger -- excellent burger joint that makes everything from scratch and uses all local ingredients.

herford house -- best fucking steakhouse in the world.

I eat way to much take-out to even start on this threat. The BBQ place next door OWNS though.

What about YELLOW SUB?!

I haven't been there in like 3 years, and it was about 10 before that, but Green Turkey or Crab Cali are up there with the best sammiches I've ever had.

Mobile, AL
The BRick Pit BBQ -- consistently rates in Southern Living's best. Wood fired stove, pretty much a tar paper shack still

Argiro's -- fucker got blown away by the Hurricane in 1998, re-built. Burnt down, re-built. Blown away by Katrina...rebuilding now. I refer to it as "GAR-be-q" cos its in a fucking Gas station/Bait Shop and everyone in there is a steel worker or dock worker...so you KNOW it got that good.

The Little Kitchen -- Meat and 3, often with fried pork chop, fried chicken and even cafeteria-style spaghetti...choice of veggies. Brocolli Casserole, Green Bean Casserole, Mac and cheese, Collard Greens, etc...

Best sub around. I usually get the meatless sub, which amounts to a nicoise salad with provolone cheese packed in a fresh baguette with copious amounts of homemade dijon vinaigrette.

For late nights: we get it to go and eat across the street at The Club Deuce where the strangest of strange hang out in a Lychian type dive bar.

Coconut Grove - 27th Ave/Bird Rd.
Slice and Ice

Best slice around and excellent italian icees.

Maimi - Coral Way/3rd Ave(Five Points)
Il Mondo

Homemade pastas and sauces made there. For 15 bucks you can get enough to feed 4. Favorite is mixing Foie Gras tortellone with Quattro Formaggi tortellone in a butter sage sauce(I usually make this on my own) and drink with a bottle of Pinot Noir or Sauvignon Blanc.

Have you been to Wheatfields? When I'm in town I always gotta eat lunch there...love the turkey/apple sammich.

Kansas City

Mexican : Pancho's...it's a run-down former Arby's building, but Gawddamn the food is good. Burritos the size of yer arm.

BBQ : Oklahoma Joe's...it's in a gas station ( noticing a "great food in shitty locations" theme here? ) & you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I recommend the "Z-Man" sandwich. http://www.oklahomajoesbbq.com/

Sammiches/Pizza : D'Bronx...I know people from NYC that say it's as close to a hometown deli as you'll find.

Hey if you get around there, FtL has some good ones. I think on Sunrise near the Federal Hwy merge, there's a Hot Dog Heaven(or Heavlny Hot dog) that serves up some good ones.

Also keep an eye out for Dharma Dog. They started on Biscayne Blvd and have since opened a couple more around town. They may make it up there.

Have you ever been to Apizza Scholls in the Hawthorne District? It is supposed to be some great Pizza in kind of an epicurian manner(it is a little more authentic than most) - We're trying to head there tonight on our way to my parent's place near McMinnville, I'll let you know what we think about it if you are interested.

I live in the Sutherland region of Saskatoon, and they've got what I think is a western CDN chain called Wingnuts, which absolutely has the best wings I've ever had. I have to actively inhibit from a weekly wing binge. They also got ribs there as well, but I haven't had them yet because I'm an idiot.

You can see the menu here.

yeah, yellow sub is quite good, but the extreme moisture of all of their sandwiches makes it a bad option for delivery. i can't even count the times i've ordered a sub and by the time it gets to me the bread is soggy and disintegrating. plus they've gone all hollywood and expanded into the kansas city suburbs. sellouts.

I didn't know you were in Lawrence! lol. I live about a 3 minute drive from the El Torreon...going to see Damone there a week from Sunday. I could easily walk if it wasn't risky. But it is, so I drive.

I used to be a Rosedale man, but since I had OK Joe's I'm converted. Love Rosedale's sauce, though.

Never been to Blue Koi, though. Actually, it's ridiculous how few 39th St. joints I've been to, considering I've lived here for 11 years & only 5 minutes ( if that ) away from those places.

Great thick crust pizza, amazing breadsticks, good sandwiches all cooked in a very rare rotating oven; they somehow still have the best prices in the world. Also all-you-can-eat pizza/salad buffet weekdays at lunch and every Monday night.
