I missed my one opportunity to see Nirvana live back in the day. At that time, I was going to so many shows monthyl, that I was simply burned out, and I figured I'd have plenty of time to chem em out live....didn't happen.

they were as awesome as their myth. when you try to break down why they were awesome the reasons evaporate. But the sum of their parts just killed.

i probably listen to In Utero the most out of all of them.
as for the box set, i was dissapointed when it came out but almost all of the songs have grown on me and now i really like it.

I never got into 'em. I just think they're a nice band. Even Kurt Cobain didn't think they were very good...

Not that anyone here doubts that Nirvana fucking rocks, but I thought I would provide a place to list personal anectdotes.
So last evening, I'm in a totally awful and ferocious mood. Alcohol is only fueling the fire, and I don't really have anywhere to go or anyone to see on this particular evening. So I go home and spin In Utero, along with the live record, for the first time in a while. Sometimes I forget how hard this band rocked, or how good their records are. I only wish that I wouldn't have lost my copy of bleach. Oh well, good band, definitely fit my mood and made my night waaay better.

Oh yeah. We got those same problems coming back. What'd Haq say it was? Something about Google?

I had a ticket to go see them and then Kurt overdosed in Italy (I think) and the tour was cancelled.

I wish I hadn't taken my ticket back for a refund now.

Radcliffe, I hate you. Neither Juice nor I, nor our individual proclivities, have anything to do with the board's malfunction.

We do our googling in the privacy of our homes -- and, sometimes, the fitting-room at Nordstrom's -- and that shouldn't mean anything to the board's health.

in utero is also my fav, but i think that they are plenty of reasons why they were awesome, the first and best simply being their records. While Nevermind sounds pretty dated these days, the songs were solid and the cultural impact was profound. In Utero still sounds fucking great, and it's been too long since I've heard bleach for me to comment. Wish I could have seen them live, although part of the reason I probably like them so much was how old I was when I first heard them. They were the first band I ever heard that rocked like that, and there's an entire generation that can probably say the same thing.

The majority of my friends in highschool were so obsessed with them that I am still completely burned out and have never been able to listen to them since.

It was just at the point where, every band practice, they'd do covers. Any time we went anywhere, they'd have In Utero in the car. And so on.

Also, one of my nemeis's ex-girlfriend's faggy friends didn't know how to spell Nirvana (even though he was a superfan). When Kurt's suicide was revealed, he stencilled NERVANA on his arm.

((( Here's the chain: M Daniel Carey (nickisnotdead, on CMJ and Obner) dated Kathy Kegel in '95 and '96, then remained friends with her; K Kegel was friends with Grant Nahring, who was in my eighth grade English class, and in said class, he and Andrea Paprocki were commisserating over K Cobain's death, at which time he revealed the NERVANA stencil )))

Don't listen to them that much, but when I do I am always reminded of just how great they were and how much I loved 'em.
Great band that gets a lot of unnecessary backlash. They never sucked.

I can't follow this but I like the sound of it.

I think I'm going to play Bleach today, it's been years since I heard that album.

You deserve a better quality of nemesis, Monty. Seriously.

And Nirvana were truly great - but I don't think they'd even started to scratch the surface of just how great they could've been.

Prolly, but his status as my nemesis pre-dates my involvement on either CMJ or Obner by two years. So, it's not a board issue from which the enmity grew, but pre-board life... It's long-term.

i admonish you for inferring this. :P

True. I've said before that I'm not that into Nirvana, but I get the feeling I would've been a big fan of Kurt's solo stuff.

Especially since he wanted to collaborate with guys like Michael Stipe.
