THIS ONE

Not so sure that I want to go back and buy all their albums. And this looks like an excellent retrospective.

Plus, one cover that never gets mentioned in any of the "Best Covers" threads is their version of Joan Baez's "Diamonds and Rust". Awesome.

Thoughts?

Can you just tell us what it is, so I don't have to click on that AMG link? I'm guessing it's a Judas Priest thing so it'll be a total waste of time for me.

They were the first band that I ever got into on my own... not my parents' music. They were the ones that inspired me to first pick up a guitar. They changed my life... in a very real sense.

And now that I'm getting back into the old metal bands, I think it's time I get some of the old Priest stuff that made such an impression on the 13-year-old me. The Iron Maiden still holds up, I have no reason to think that Priest won't.

Given the title I'm guessing the jewel box includes a blank cd.

<------ Probably hates Judas Priest as much as any other band

wow, no love lost for Priest on this board I see...love em or hate em, they were a seminal band for their genre.

Todd, you'll probably find yourself wanting for more than just 2 discs, why not look into getting a used/cheap copy of Metalogy.

I'm really starting to hate it when someone sallypallies their own thread with a blind link. Just take the extra couple of keyboard strokes to tell us what the link is.

Haq, can we sticky a thread with some guidelines for posting?

I made a thread for this.
Have at it.

This thread is about Judas Priest.

I'd skip the comp--lots of stuff missing ("Island of Domination", ahem). Get these three, then see if you need more:

Sad Wings Of Destiny (made my Listmania)
Rock-a-Rola
Sin After Sin

If you're jonesing for more (in order):

Defenders of the Faith (although there's some god-awful stuff on it, the high points are lofty indeed)
Stained Class
Hell Bent For Leather
British Steel

This was my era.
I will most certainly get these if I go the albums route.

And what do you think of the 4-disc Metalology comp?
It is certainly more thorough...

Get the two RCA albums first (Ovation label in the UK). I'm dead serious, if you don't own Sad Wings Of Destiny, you're doing yourself a great disservice buying anything else.

What, no Screaming for Vengeance or Point of Entry?!? You mean you don't wanna go, don't wanna go, don't wanna go HOT ROCKIN'???

I saw JP on the Defenders tour with pre-arsonistic Great White as opening act. Great show for a 16-year-old, it was!

np: XTC - "All You Pretty Girls"

I can't listen to this song without envisioning Opa! getting too personal with himself in front of the video. Creeps me out, man.

Yeah, this video makes Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round" look like a Sam Peckinpah film.

np: Ted Leo/Pharmacists - "Biomusicology"
