its a shame 'Nirvana' has taken on a seperate entity from their actual music

if you ignore the mythology, history, hick fans listening to them alongside other classic rock stapels etc; and concentrate on their actual recorded output, you realise what a great band they are

It's On a Plain. A big difference as far as the song goes. I can't say I listen to Nirvana much now, but I was more than jolted at their time since they were a change to the regular BS, I not being a prevalent indie seeker. Yeah, he was a self-important prima dick who offed himself, and so have others. He left some good songs, quite unforgettable ones.

The Foo songs seem forgettable for me.

Bump cuz I'm rockin' out to Bleach.

Also, I'm kinda confused by the "Cobain is a twat/self-important prima dick" comments. From the articles and biographies I've read about him, Kurt always came off to me as a sensitive, down-to-earth type of guy.

I listen to "In Utero" by far more than anything else. I loved Nirvana. They would have done some amazing things. Are we sure they would have lasted as a band ??? I saw them with 1/2 Japanese and The Breeders as opening acts. Great.

Cobain would have been 40 tomorrow. Feel old now? Alice in Chains was my Seattle band of choice back then, but yeah, Nirvana was a juggernaut and the music holds up.

maybe i'll give some nirvana a spin today. they're what thoroughly moved me to check out "alternative" music. Nevermind + In Utero is a great back-to-back set. Kurt killed himself on my birthday too. :( (so i'm responsible!!)

This is the one band that I can honestly say changed my life, before I heard nevermind the only music that I listend to was stuff like the beatles. After I stole my dad's copy of Nevermind it opened a whole new world of music to me which is what made me want to buy a guitar and play music and all that. Also I looked up all the bands that Kurt said he liked which lead me to sonic youth, melvins, Vaselines, etc

I'm not sure I really agree with this.

I was in my late teens when Nirvana appeared and I was heavily into them and that whole Sub Pop scene but in the cold light of day 'Bleach' was pretty average, 'Nevermind' as a whole hasn't really stood up especially well to the test of time and 'In Uetro' while being a good, noisy blast of a record is hardly all time great material.

Nirvana's success was similar to The Stone Roses if only on a wider scale. They took what had been around on the underground music scene for a couple of years and had a fancy producer polish it up for mass consumption.

Nirvana were a good band but the amount of discussion and analysis they have generated down the years far outstrips any musical worth their output had.

I've never liked Bleach very much. But In Utero is still menacing as hell.

i think Bleach has aged very well musically, it's mostly silly lyrically.
