any "holiday" that one has to set the alarm for is no holiday in my book. it's a work day. i'm never up before ten on a sunday.

i have to drive over 2 hours to the ex in-laws who insist on "dinner" at one. what is wrong with these people?

it seems the agony of a catholic school upbringing continues to haunt me this high holy day. i may have to tear the head off of a chocolate bunny today.

Just a warning- the bunny may be hollow.

Just so you don't get giddy thinking it'll be solid.

Not being very religious, I find this an odd holiday and have issues with it too.

The ex dropped off an easter basket for the kids early this mornig on the back porch– probably because she knows I'm completely clueless and don't really give a rats ass about easter, also it may be to show what a heartless dick I am for not observing it.

Snap a neck for me too please!

i almost hate holidays. too much running around in order to see everyone who expects to see me on that day. so. not. relaxing.

today i have to be at my best friend's familys'....then over to my gram's for breakfast for which i'm late for already..... then i have to drive 1 hour west to see my dad's family. THEN back to my gram's (to see the rest of my family) THEN to my house to finish packing for my vacation. and THEN i have to drive an hour EAST to my other friend's house.....so that we can leave at 3am for the ocean.

one good thing:
i won my son in the kid car pool to drive down there.
he's much more laid back and we're already a half hour late.
things are looking up.

Easter, like Christmas is for the kids. The Bunny and Santa, and the unbridled glee they elicit. Makes the 7:30 rousting out of bed all worthwhile.

There's my sappy sentiment for the day. Glad that's over with.

Uh, yeah, it's "for the kids". It is of no use for the candy manufacturers, the basket weavers, or the people that grow fake plastic grass and eggs to stuff the shit in. And of course the parents don't get anything out of it do they? I mean go to any city and watch an easter egg hunt. The parents are the model of calmness. they don't get the least bit excited when their kids walk right past an egg. This is especially true if the kids are around the age of two or three.

But I suppose you're right. Kids love to wake up early, traipse through the cold wet weeds to find artificial eggs wrapped in colored foil left by a bunny and gorge themselves on candy.

sorry, I'm just in a pissy mood I guess.

I got up kind of early today but I don't think I'm going to be able to see the family today because I have tickets for a Sox game at 2 and my sister lives like an hour away so it'd be kind of pointless to drive there, say hi and turn around and leave.

Odd, I thought it was a RELIGIOUS holiday?

Easter brings great memories for me.

My mom taking my sister and me to the store to buy our Easter outfits. I loved wearing my new white lacy ankle socks with my new white shoes to match whatever pastel coloured dress my mom had bought. And, we can't forget the Easter hat and purse -- hell no! Ooooh, and the purse that HAD to had a couple of Kleenex tissues and a quarter for the charity basket when it came around at Mass.

After Mass, my pop would take us to a favourite park that usually had a running stream or a lake where we'd have a picnic. He'd hide the eggs that my sister and I had meticulously decorated a few days prior -- no fake, plastic eggs for us! Hell no! Meanwhile, Mom kept us entertained or we'd help lay the food out for our eagerly-anticipated picnic.

"Mommy, can we take off our shoes?", we'd ask. Before she could respond with, "Yes, but be careful.", they were off with socks neatly shoved into the shoes. We didn't need a whole lot to entertain us -- running around on the grass, dipping our feet in the water, playing on the swings was perfect fun for us. I can still remember the blades of grass tickling my toes.

Man...those were good times.

Yup, it does for me too. In fact it's always been my favorite holiday. I remember loving the church services as a child. The Easter Dinner. And the new easter dresses my mom would make or buy for us.

My son for some reason was under the mistaken impression that the Easter Bunny was like Santa and he could "ask" for what he wanted in his easter basket. Boy was he wrong, we had to really set him straight last night.

He woke me up at 6 this morning. I made him hold off til 7:30 til he could look for his (understated) basket.

You know what Easter is really about? Food. Just like every other holiday.

You got your turkey at thanksgiving, your barbecue on the 4th of July, all kinds of shit at christmas, ham at easter.

I dig a good ham, but as far as holidays/food, it's fairly weak.

Why is ham an easter food? I thought Rack of lamb was the easter food?

That's good too, but i'm not down with the mint jelly.

Why are EITHER of them easter food?

I guess bread and wine would be more appropriate, but not very filling.

Maybe it's lamb because Jesus was the lamb of god, sacrificed, etc, yadda yadda...

And ham because if the jews aren't gonna root for their comeback kid, fuck em, we're about to be as unkosher as we wanna be. Oink oink, heathens.

If it wasn't for Obner I wouldn't even have known it was Easter.
