I'd never heard anything religious-related to this holiday until the past few years.

In my house, it's always just been about looking for easter eggs in the morning and watching It's The Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown. We wouldn't really get together with the extended family, either. That's more a Thanksgiving and Christmas thing.

Though the aunt and uncle are coming over tonight for dinner.

I've talked to many of my friends and they have huge sit-down dinners today that are on the scale of Thanksgiving.

btw, is that you Harley? and what is that painting as your avatar? I like it.

We never had a sit-down dinner for Easter, it was all about the afternoon picnic. Though, it definitely WAS about homemade potato salad...mmmm. I think I'll make some today. Chicken enchiladas and potato salad. Sounds good to me!

Since I'm all alone now and my sister is working today, it's gonna be like any other Sunday. I've already taken down the fence (with the help of my neighbour) next to my house -- it was useless and acted more of a deterrent for me to spy on the neighbours..uhm, I mean to see the street corner. Laundry is next, pack old clothes in giant trash bags for easy toting to Goodwill, organize closet, sneak in a Netflix movie, take a shower somewhere in between, go to the police station and take sis some of my enchiladas and salad.

I'm already tired.

any "holiday" that one has to set the alarm for is no holiday in my book. it's a work day. i'm never up before ten on a sunday.

i have to drive over 2 hours to the ex in-laws who insist on "dinner" at one. what is wrong with these people?

Ohhhh, I get it now. Sorry, I'm thinking of alcoholic beverages and it clouded my brain.

My daughter has been nuking these ALL morning. They are pretty funny when nuked.

I ate a pack of four bunnies and have felt ill ever since. They always seem like such a good idea... so cute and innocent, then BAM! Nausea sets in.

I've got a sweet potato crisp in the oven now and salmon and mashed potatoes to come.

I'm completely non-religious, and so is my immediate family, so Easter has always meant school/uni holidays, and LOTS of chocolate. And last night it also meant an awesome meal of baked salmon and vegies.

The most annoying part is that it's a 4-day weekend here so Sydney pretty much empties out. Since I have to be back there for tomorrow (today is Monday) it means I have to deal with monster traffic once I hit the freeway, all the way into the city. The usual just-over-5hr trip is going to look a lot more like 7 hrs, with the last 2 bumper-to-bumper and hoping there's no crashes

I had only one of those damn things and that was enough. The sweet potato crisp, salmon and smashed potatoes sound really good. Hmmmm

So we went to friends for Easter brunch and stuffed the face.

And yesterday my buddy Pete made us brunch. It was alot of fun to eat, but weird to not cook all weekend.

For brunch yesterday we had a quiche with spinach, tomatoes, caramelized onions, and a sausage crust! Pete also made a slamming French Toast casserole with a caramel and pecan topping. Coffee, Da Ali G Show, cigarettes... a great time. Then Pete and I went to see Peter Mulvey, picked up the new disc, had some guiness, went to Duke's had some burgers, came home, and the girl had ordered sushi from Bluefin, so we stuffed the face on that.

Today at brunch, our friend turned out a SPREAD. Spiral cut honey ham, lamb with mint pesto, oven roasted turkey breast, homemade bread of all varieties, salad with a rice wine vinaigrette, whipped sweet potatoes, sweet and hot asian vegetables, brussel sprouts (I passed on those), garlic parmesan oven roasted potatoes, cheesecake, fruit, cream puffs, chocolate and caramel fondue, mimosas, other booze... damn that was good.

I'm now making pork short ribs in the oven with garlic, cumin, curry, beer, cracked black pepper, I may or may not barbecue them... Buttered green beans.

It's been a good weekend for chow.

My easter Sunday was not fun. I got up early to go on a group ride with some other women at 9 am, and 3 miles into it, my friend had a massive crash on some wet pavement. We were coming around a curve pretty fast-- too fast really-- and her wheels came out from under her, she tried to correct, and over-corrected. She was thrown from the bike, and by the time I stopped to run back to her, she was laying on the path face down. She had a major concussion. I don't think I've ever been around someone who's had a concussion before, but it freaked my shit out when she kept asking "What happened?" over and over again. The back of her bike helmet was split in 2, she shredded her back and right shoulder and skinned both knees. She ended up going to the emergency room, getting back and neck x-rays and a head CT, and was released in the evening. What a shitty way to start a morning and week. :(

No kidding. So sorry to hear about your friend. Thank god she was wearing a helmet or that concussion would've been a hell of a lot worse.
