I also think the name is silly but understand about trying to generate revenue. I think all of the small market teams should try to incorporate as many cities into their name as possible to try to get more fans. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays could be the 'Tampa Sarasota Orlando Devil Rays South of Tallahassee and Jacksonville'. Imagine the revenues they could generate!

This makes me all the happier the Seligs didn't give in to the morons and change the name of the team to the Wisconsin Brewers, as was proposed when the funding for Miller Park came up for debate in the mid-nineties. I mean, only five counties -- all in or adjacent to Milwaukee --, were subject to the 0.1% sales tax, and at that, the out-staters were hopping mad over it, even though they wouldn't be paying for it. So, "Wisconsin" Brewers, what? You don't even want the team.

So, had the Seligs surrendered, the national media would have had yet another reason for which to crucify Bud, even though, on balance, he has done a fine job as commish.
