Not necessarily in order (because that would be too hard):
Nick Cave
Morrissey
Ray Davies
Bob Dylan
Joe Strummer
Shane MacGowan
Jay Farrar
Stuart Murdoch
Jarvis Cocker
Jeff Mangum

EDIT: To replace Albarn with Mangum. And I have to give a nod to Bob Pollard, if only for "Smothered In Hugs" -- fucking brilliant.

That is an unf---withable run, there.

Also, if you're Milwaukee or the midwest in the next few months, and you get word of a show by a gal billed as Puff-Puff, take a flyer on it. I just saw her appearance at a jazz spot on Water -- she was playing with my cousin (her boyfriend), she on vox and xylophone, he on guitar and sequencer -- and it was quite good. Best of all, during the second mini-mission she did a great one-take on "Suzanne", on guitar and vox.

I refuse to rank. I will give the first 10 that pop into my head

Warren Zevon
Townes Van Zandt
Billy Bragg
Randy Newman
Steve Poltz
Paul Westerberg
Wally Pleasant
Shane MacGowan
Ice Cube
--- 9 is fine ---

I like Springsteen, but he tends to pull the same tricks out of his hat. I like Dylan more as I get older, but he does throw some bullshit in there. To me, Neil Young is more of an overall package than individual pieces (took my fiddle and broke it down the middle?).

I originally had him on mine, but replaced him with Hoyt Axton, because freedom's just another word for this is my fucking list and I can put on it whoever I want.

That's why you were smart like me and only committed to an initial nine. I'm debating whether 10 is Kristofferson, Westerberg, Strummer or Davies or someone else someone will come up with.
