This morning, I heard Aqueduct’s “Hardcore Days, Softcore Nights” on a Jaguar commercial. :/

I’ve heard (probably here), too, they are using an Iron and Wine song on an M&M’s commercial but haven’t caught it yet :/

Anyone know what song is used in this Sheraton commercial played nonstop?

Also, I never knew that the Vonage song was by an Athens band...pretty funny. Rock-A-Teens and their bizarro drummer who edited the weekly rag.

Edit: Looks like a Pat Benatar song, which is why it seems so familiar..And its BENETAR SINGING IT.
Kinda reminded me of a souped up version of Crimson and Clover I used to have.

I'm surprised so many of you are familiar with the music used in commercials. Don't you change the channel, mute the TV, or fast-forward through them?

Complete bullshit. WTF? Yeah, let's ban all advertising for products being sold today because their purchase will only lead to the illusion of happiness.

What a crock of shit, you are off your acid-induced 70's rocker.

Radcliffe has a point. He didn't say anything about banning ads, just pointed out that ads are designed to sell us stuff that we don't honestly need. And they have found an economical way to do this by buying up chunks of "cool" that apparently effectively appeal to certain demographics. It's kinda a fractured version of the bandwagon approach.

Just heard the New Pornographers "Use It" ... I think it was a commercial for a cable provider of some sort.

Anyone see the Jack White Coke commercial yet? Catch it here:

I hate it when old threads like this are resurrected because I think Dunwoody Dude is back.

I can think of a million items that have ads for things we honestly need in life.

Lately, I've been digging the music on that Old Navy commercial where everyone is dancing on the rooftop in really obnoxious spring colors...I *think* the song is from a band called AM Sixty. Can anyone confirm?

Also, just a commercial for my web log, I did an entry on this subject (see second down in the archive):

I liked that commercial a while back with 'Let's Spend The Night Together' playing while a fake Brit '66 looking band runs around kind of Hard Days Night style.

Recently, I heard 'I'm Not Like Everybody Else' and didn't like that commercial at all. Probably because it falls into that category of commercial where they usually just repeat one line of the song, often the title, and try to turn the meaning of the line toward their stupid company or product, thus bastardizing the song. I hate these the most.

I usually don't mind if the song is in the background, e.g., Molly's Chambers, Mr. Blue Sky. VW seems to have the best taste , don't they? My theory is that The Who and Zeppelin probably charge a fortune to use their songs. So they get picked up by the biggest spending advertisers like car companies whose commercials air the most. Combine this with the fact they you are probably already sick of The Who and Zeppelin hits and it makes it even worse. Although I thought the Happy Jack ad was OK. Won't Get Fooled Again was already DOA but it's hard to kill Happy Jack.

<<When you hear little bands that are barley making it, to me it’s ok, as they need the cash more often than not. So the Walkman, Modest Mouse, Kinks, and the Shins are fine with me.>>

The Kinks were arena rockers 25+ years ago. I know they had their career troubles before that but they made up for it. Give The People, Low Budget and the live double were gold records. I'm guessing they are pretty rich today.
