That's a good article. The problem with all of the political consultants is that they don't really believe in anything other than winning. I always thought the word "Idealogue" was unfairly bashed. I like politicians who stand for something whether I always agree with what they stand for or not.

I wrote my senior undergraduate Marketing thesis on the marketing of political candidates. "Marketing" in this sense, dates back to the 19th century, they didn't have mass media to make it easier/more visible.

Whistle stop tours, campaign slogans (many of them ferociously negative), etc.--tried and true tools o' the trade.

Everybody SAYS that, that they like candidates to stand for something, but many times vote the other way.

You are correct in that consultants want to win, at any cost, always. (It is their job ;) )

Man, I read this Time excerpt on the crapper the other night, and IMMEDIATELY thought it would be required reading for LooGAR. I'm fascinated by the whole RFK speech to THEM! in Indianapolis RE: MLK blown away what else do I have to say.

That only makes sense, though. You WANT a candidate to make a strong stand, and then you can vote FOR or AGAINST that stand.

That's why you should never make a stand, someone'll use it against you ;)

I'd go so far as to say that consultants have ruined pretty much everything.
