Would you sing 'Hollaback Girl'?

Keep in mind that the place was pretty dead and I was with a large group, though I only knew three of those people previously. I was completely sober. And none of the other males would agree to come up and sing it with me.

I'd do it, but not sober.

Hell no - that was easily one of the worst "songs" of last year (or whenever it came out), and singing fairly recent hits usually results in a bad time for everyone.

I actually couldn't remember the song too well. I haven't heard it since I stopped working at the record store.

'Since U Been Gone' I definitely could have taken on, but some woman beat me to it.

Big kudos man - I would totally have done Hollaback girl with you- to me karaoke is about being BAD, not good and also it is even more about being as silly as possible.
I've personally gone up and done "Summer Lovin" from Grease with a female friend of mine - of course I sang the Olivia Newton John part(I'm 6'5" and a big guy) and she sang the John Travolta part....we had a blast - and while I have a decent falsetto we intentionally sang it really poorly. This always pisses off the serious karoke people but those people are typically freakshows who watch entirelly too much American Idol.

I'm not a huge fan of Karaoke. I derive all the intense embarrasment I need simply from existing.

I did sing 'Last Of The Famous International Playboys' once though, at Sussex University, 1993.

I love karaoke, though I don't do it myself too often. The last time I did karaoke, I did El Scorcho. And before that was with a live band called Knight Seeker. They did live-band 80's karaoke, and a friend of mine signed me up to sing 'Don't Stop Believing'. And I rocked it.
Speaking of Hollaback...My burlesque troupe had a show last December, the same day as the SEC championship, so to entice guys to come to the show, 8 girls from the troupe (including me) did a goofy-ass cheerleader-themed dance number during the half-time of the football game at the venue our show was at (which also happened to be showing the SEC game on the big screen). The songs in the dance medley? Hollaback, Tumble For You, and Hey Ricky. Cheese at its best. But the guys loved it.

I haven't sung karaoke for a while, but it does get tiring to here the same freaking songs everytime. Alot of them are recent pop hits, some of them are just fairly crappy classics. It would be nice if there was more obscure and indie music added into the mix for a rare person like myself.
I'd love to sing that Morrissey tune here in Nebraska, even though so many people would think I was gay after doing it.

That is a fine choice to sing.

I've never done it myself, I'd have to be pretty goddamn drunk because I know I have a horrible singing voice. If I had too, I'd probably do something like Conway Twitty.

I flip through the books and a lot if is exactly what you'd expect. Especially the choices people sing.

Every night, you can be expected to hear:
Alanis Morisette - You Oughta Know
No Doubt - I'm Just A Girl
Melissa Etheridge - Come To My Window
Prince - Purple Rain
Oasis
Kelly Clarkson

and so on.

But I'll look through the book and there'll randomly be a song by Butthole Surfers or Gin Blossoms or Guster. Which I could totally do. Except then I feel like "what's the point?" because nobody in the place has heard of these songs anyway.

Because you are performing something different and it could be something that makes some of the annoying patrons leave. I'm a huge Radiohead fan and Radiohead covered Carly Simon's Nobody does it better, so I sang it one night while attending USD. I think some people really found it disturbing that a man would sing that song.

I think I actually have done Hollaback Girl at kereoke

I've also done the Pixies' "Monkey Gone to Heaven" and Super Furry Animals' "Juxtaposed to U." One of my kind-of friends actually knew SFA, though, and we had a nice little chat about how awesome they are. I don't think anyone knew "Monkey Gone to Heaven," though

My favorite is to "Man In The Box" by Alice In Chains.

Some girl does a really great "Welcome to the Jungle" at the karaoke night I always end up at.

Also, Hollaback Girl is a standard for someone else.
