Yes, I am “the new guy”. I just wanted to get recommendations on the best record stores in Chicago / Chicago-land area to pick up indie cd’s.

Used to visit this place every time I went to see Haq when he lived in Chicago. I highly recommend this store.

Downtown:

Rock Records on Washington.

Evanston:
Dr. Wax around the corner from the fountain.

At either the Berwyn or Brynn Mar stop (The one with the Jewel, I get those 2 stops mixed up.) is also a much bigger Dr. Wax.

Laurie's planet of sound is on Lincoln just south of Lawrence.

Hijacked thread warning!

Roger that PM. thanks for the info on Taste. I told the guy at work who first took me there, and he said they had a poster in there about it when he was in there yesterday. Too bad I am switching jobs on Monday and won't be working on this project anymore, which means less (no?) visits to Indianapolis. Maybe the family will take a little vacation to Indy in the fall. I love going to close places which aren't going to cost me a fortune in airfare/gas/lodging/ food.
It would also give me an excuse to get near that record shop.

Well that's too bad. Hopefully you can get back to our little city for a show or a game or something and check out Luna. I'm sure you have stores like it in Cinci, I just figured it would be convenient for your next trip to Nap Town. Tell your co-workers to check it out if they're into good music.

reckless should have the [/thread] response. laurie's is ok, but i haven't been there in months, even though i live a 3-minute walk from there. let's just say i'm sour with a couple things about them.

there is some place down at, like, 80-somethingth and western that is supposedly awesome, but i'd love to hear a second opinion or three before venturing down there.

Reckless sucks for CDs, but it's good for vinyl. Record Emporium is also good for vinyl. I like Hard Boiled.

each reckless has their strength. i can't remember which is the cd one and which is the vinyl one right now, though. i usually find pretty good vinyl at both, but rarely excellent stuff.

Reckless on Broadway: CDs
Reckless on Milwaukee: Vinyl

The Reckless on Milwaukee also gets bonus points for being the employer of my friend Dave, the King of Metal.

You're missing out, although the staff at the Milwaukee location is much better.
