The Trojans are, after all, bringing the slaughter.

I knew it. They should have put Utah in the Orange Bowl. USC would have at least had a worthy opponent, even though the Utes would have been crushed, all the same.

But, Pittsburgh, in a BCS game? The Panths will be lucky to finish in the top 25 in the writers' poll. And, Oklahoma playing for its third title game in five years? When Auburn did at least just as well against a similarly milquetoast schedule? Pshaw!

This is awesome, then, for me as the brother of a USC alumnus -- even though he doesn't go in for the sporting and Sunday games, and such --, and for the simple reason that the best cheerleaders in college athletics cheer for Troy, but this sucks because Stoops has made a mockery of two consecutive national "finals".

Calling the SEC milquetoast is a crime against humanity Monty. 4 of the 5 teams who have EVER gon undefeated in the SEC since the two division split have won the national championship, and the one that didn't was Florida, who got the brakes beat off 'em by Nebraska.

How you go undefeated in the SEC and don't play for the National Championship is beyond me. Bobby Lowder and some Trojan booster should put $50 million on the table and invite the teams to duke it out.

As a long-time 'SC fan, that game was both amazing and brutal...
That's what a single OT loss, combined with a co-championship that they should've had outright last season, will do for ya...

Monty Auburn had 4 wins vs. 10 win teams (+ 1 9 win team). Oklahoma had 1. USC had 2.

I don't post about bands i don't know well. I love that people post about teams they don't know that well.

I am talking non-conference scheduling here, people. 'Tis the only element of schedule strength over which any conferenced team -- to coin a malapropism -- can have any control.

This year:

Auburn played Lousiana Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, and Div. I-AA (I think) The Citadel. Oklahoma played Baylor, Houston, and (by golly, an actually competitive opponent) Oregon (but, of course, in Norman). And USC played Notre Damn, (a patsy, yes) Colorado St., Brigham Young, and
Virginia Tech.

Oh, and Utah played Arizona, North Carolina, and Texas A&M. All on the road. How 'bout dem apples?

Additionally:

Byu def Notre Dame def Tennessee
Tennesse lost in SEC Championship to Auburn

Usc def Va Tech
Va Tech lost tight to Auburn in Sugar

So, the argument can be made that Usc should have been playing Auburn in Orange Bowl. But, they still would have won. Just as Usc beat Auburn in season's opener last season. And, in Jordan-Hare, not LA Olympic Memorial Coliseum.

Just further evidence that the SEC makes its nine-wins butter from playing the few good non-conference opponents they'll have on home-turf -- except, of course, Usc def Auburn -- and otherwise scheduling light-weights.

I think USC Auburn would've been a good game. Your logic is a bit skewed on the transference. in college football it doesn't always work that way. Also, look at the CONFERENCE SCHEDULE. Its Brutal. Even in a "down year" I say you go undefeated in the SEC, you deserve to play for the whole shebang.

The same has been said of the ACC in NCAA Men's Basketball play. But, I don't remember Duke or UNC -- the giants -- being in the Final Four every year. So ----

I just wanna say that I was raised as an Auburn fan, and it was never easy. The fact that they don't get a shot at the national championship this year is just typical of the kind of luck they're always had. Their last great undefeated season, they were on probation where they couldn't go to any bowl games and couldn't even be on TV. You guys who've been following college football probably remember this.

Anyway, they're a big reason why I don't bother with sports any more, but I really wish I'd watched a game or two this season. I never did.

USC Played a traditional power (with an off year) in Notre Dame, V Tech & BYU in Nonconf play. Yeah the SEC is head & shoulders above the Pac 10 this year but if you're scheduling Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech & 1-AA Citadel in this day & age when you know how important SOS is you only have yourself to blame. The system is miles away from perfect, I wish there was a playoff but if only 2 teams can be chosen I think the 2 proper teams were chosen this year.
