It's UNREAL! Check out "The Pot" & "Wings for Marie" Pt1.

Been playing it over and over all night, and I'm just blown away. So deep. Cannot wait to see them at Coachella.

Here's some extra links for anyone that wants to check it out [coded for board safety:D]

Had to revive this thread. Just got hold of this couple days ago and gave it a solid listen last night. Listening again now. This album KICKS ASS.

I thought I was pretty much burnt out on Tool, but this has brought me back around. I thought Emotive was shear garbage, but this one more than makes up for it. Sounds like a slightly heavier Lateralus to me. Like Dalen said, it's DEEP.

How would anyone actually rank their other stuff? I've never listened to Tool and liked the new stuff, so I should probably go back and hear some more.

I'm not a Tool aficionado, but I burned this for my husband, who loves them. I asked him what he thought. He said overall, it was solid, but there were a couple of clunkers-- he described them as being a bit too "exploratory." He said he'd gotten hints of that on the last album, and it seemed to be going in that direction a bit further.

He said he also heard Zeppelin-esque progressions in the songs... does that sound right?

When I started to seriously get back into music again around 1998/1999, I bought 6 CDs one day to start it off, which included artists as random as Enigma, Crystal Method, Metallica, Radiohead and Tool.

The Tool abum was Undertow, and it kicked my ass. I remember reading the booklet before listening to the CD and I thought to myself, "What in the hell did I just buy?"

yeah, there are a few really prog rock moments on this album. i personally invite that type of exploration, and a band like can Tool pull it off.

"Wings For Marie (Part 1)" is downright brilliant.

i love the production on this album as well. evrything is dead clear, and heavy as all hell.

i loved aenima after liking undertow. lateralus was a step back for me -- didn't seem as experimental or edgy as aenima.

sounds like this one returns to the edge.

i always figured tool was about as far as you could push metal without being too self-indulgent. i think they pushed a little too hard on this album, and have officially entered self-indulgence land.

How are those DVDs that came out for the last album. I always see them cheap, and I dig their previous video outings, but was wondering if they are worthwhile and follow the same mold.

Wowsers! What a kick ass record. I jammed the whole thing in its entirety today on a long drive up I-95. I dare say that's it's my favorite Tool album yet. I, for one, love the meandering, self-indulgent vibe.

based on the few spins you guys have amassed at this point, is this a decent entry point for tool? do i even want to get into tool? i didn't know this was a band that people with good taste in music really liked.

If you like any form of metal or hard rock, these guys are worth a shot. In my top 5 bands ever. Most people like AEnima the most, but I'm a Lateralus guy. You really can't go wrong with the former as a starting point, though.

I think this album is a good place to start. It's a little different from the others, but still distinctly Tool. As mentoned above, it's hard rock mixed with elements of Pink Floyd. I wasn't too enthusiastic until I heard that first leaked track, then I remembered how much I liked the other albums.
