the title of this thread made me giggle condescendingly.

this doesn't sound like much of a deviation to me.

i'm actually kind of down. while i was really disappointed at first by "winchester cathedral" and how it was so damn similar, over time it grew on me. the songs are just as good as "walking with thee" and while they are similar, it doesn't affect their greatness.


dalen clearly hasn't listened to clinic before to say that they are trying to imitate "the coral." have you heard the song "pet eunuch"? have you listened to any of "internal wrangler"? christ.

it's not a deviation, but it's freaking good. i love clinic.

but I think it is too unique of a sound to be able to listen to it constantly and over such a long period of time release albums that sound the same. They might as well just re-release their first couple of albums again. I love the boys too, but why do I need to get this disc or Winchester Cathedral. It's just more of the same.

i can't argue with the fact that it's "more of the same." i can only argue that "more of the same" is only honing their abilities and coming up with more great songs. i think of it more as one long album, and when you look at them in order you see progression. not change, but progress in further refining this sound while at the same time harkening back to an earlier sound by playing songs like this and 'pet eunuch' etc. Sameness can be good...this is sameness, but it's not monotony.

i may have to use this phrase one day.

it's worth listening to. now that i don't have to deal with any expectations about it, it's just another solid album with their sound. if winchester cathedral had been released in place of walking with thee is 2002 i wouldn't have been disappointed with it
