Who else is stoked about this? Sadly it's all I have to look forward to this weekend since I'm getting my wisdom teeth out on Friday.

Mmmmmmm....liquid diet.

I'm stoked. If I remember; If not, then I'm pissed.

Actually, for anyone interested, here is their tv schedule for the rest of the month...not too shabby.

Wilco followed by Bright Eyes (1/8/2005)

Trey Anastasio (1/15/2005)

Modest Mouse followed by Guided By Voices (1/22/2005)

The Pixies (1/29/2005)

I never remember to watch this show. I don't even know what time it's own. It says Friday at midnight. So is that the midnight between Thursday and Friday, or the one between Friday and Thurday?

Yes, I'm stupid.

Different PBS stations air the show at different times. My station is actually airing this show next week. This week I get to see this weel has Ben Kweller and Robert Plant.

Caught the performance last night; would have given it my full attention but the Chargers where still in the process of shitting the bed so Loogar and I kept flipping back and forth (sometimes angrily)

To wit:
I thought they sounded great. I missed this particular incarnation of the "Jeff Tweedy Band" (having seen 3 different bands at 3 previous shows) when they came through atlanta last year. Glad to see Chuck Klosterman is working out on piano. And Richard Lloyd/Peter Townshend on synth/3rd guitar. I would take issue with the songs they played (little heavy on the less accesible A Ghost Is Born songs) but....well they sounded really good.

Hasn't Wilco gotten to the point were they warrant an entire hour all to themselves?

The Bright Eyes stuff was interesting. I've not really listened to a lot of his material. The songs with homeboy from MMJ were tight. I think I like Bright Eyes. Must listen to more for full assessment.

More like seething. I can respect that Wilco's a good band and all,but the songs were mostly guitar wankery, and though we missed minimal action, the threat of missing a play to see these jagoffs was almost more than I could take.

I will concede that Bright Eyes w/ M. Ward and Jim Jameson was cool. Not cool enough to miss part of a playoff game, but cool, nonethless.

Watching Conor last night confirmed my already distasteful opinion on him. I am having difficulty putting my finger on it, but that dude strikes me as a heroin abusing, indiehair having, pretentious dillweed. I am sorry. The songs he played. They were awful. IMHO, of course.

M. Ward will take some getting used to. However, Jim Jameson was splendid. I don't listen to My Morning Jacket very often. I own maybe one or two albums. But I certainly enjoy it if I am in the right mood.

That M. Ward character strikes me as a complete toolbox. I suppose he seems talented enough, but I can't get over the fact that he was just standing up there doing his best Tom Waits impersonation. It sounded so forced and silly.

Way sillier and way more foced than Oberst's hair.

Another thing I've been thinking all day: I like Wilco a lot, I really do. Always have. I'll admit that A Ghost is Born hasn't quite grown on me to the weird degree the others did, but I still find it enjoyable for the most part. Seeing them last night, though, I started wondering what, if anything, really sets them apart from the masturbatory wankiness of all those silly hippy bands we're all supposed to hate? For the most part, all I really heard last night was a bunch of lyrics that are -- let's face it -- pretty much nonsensical, and one looong guitar solo after another.

Thing is, I enjoy that stuff. I'm a guitar nerd. I even enjoy it when Phish does it. But for those of you who don't play and aren't really impressed by how fast people's hands can move up and down the guitar, what gives? What makes Wilco any different?

Haven't seen Ward live, don't know how silly he'd look, but the Waits bit works well on record.

Yes. and to add to that, he seems like a good vocal mix between Tom Waits and Adam Sandler. "Good" in this context meaning that's what I hear, not meaning pleasing.
