Just shy of a year since he originally announced the reunion, Billy Corgan has announced plans to record a new record as the popular and influential 90s "alternative rock" act Smashing Pumpkins.

To date, only Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are confirmed for the project; former Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur has not indicated any participation when she spoke with Billboard. The album will be the first new material from the band since 2000's MACHINA/The Machines of God.

it's going to suck, unless he get's back to the rock, and fucks off the electronic bullshit.

No Iha, no D'arcy, No Pumpkins.

Considering the fact that in a lot of ways the Pumpkins was a Corgan solo project and he played almost all of the guitar and bass parts thats not really true. The only two people who are essential to the Pumpkins are Corgan and Chamberlin. That being said it would be better with Iha and D'arcy.

Ahhh, really? Then why has his later work sucked so much ass? I always assumed that it was b/c he the rest of the Pumpkins kept him reined in... interesting. I wonder if he can produce anything good again?

Well, with Zwan he tried to make a completely different band with a new sound and his solo project was sort of an homage to his musical influences. You'd be surprised how many people like Zwan, including myself.

I think if he wanted to make another good Pumpkins album he could because he wrote some really good songs with Jimmy Chamberlin ("Loki Kat"), Breaking Benjamin ("Forget It") and Marianne Faithfull ("Wherever I Go") over the last few years. He still has talent, but he's not saving his best work for himself for some reason. But then again, my favorite SP albums are Adore and Machina so my opinions probably aren't typical of the average SP fan.

Yeah, the good stuff was him and Jimmy in the studio, flat out. That doesn't mean others weren't somehow keeping him from sucking, but still. Dude did the work himself. He and he alone is capable of resurecting whatever wonderful pixie muse created two of the best albums ever made, gish and siamese.

Lotsa respect, (unfortunately) lotsa skepticisim.

You think Phil Collins rocks. Who besides you likes Zwan, seriously?

Never bought the album, but I thought the singles were pretty good.
Never was much of an SP fan after Gish, though.

i can tolerate adore to some degree......but everything after has been utter trash. and it has nothing to do with electronica direction they went with. the songs in my opinion were just trash.

i think if he stuck with zwan, they coulda made some pretty good stuff. There were some moments on mary star of the sea. The brief solo on the title track still fucks me over every time.

I also maintain that Mellon Collie couldve been an all time great record if it was trimmed and released as a single album.

Corgan is an egomaniac. In order for him to get the best out of himself he needs people like Iha to keep him in check. A lot of people forget that Iha wrote a few of their good songs (none of the singles though...i think).

Oh, and I like Zwan too. As far as pop-rock records go, its decent. I still, however, lose sleep over how fucking good they couldve been if Corgan was in no way involved. PAZ! PAJO! SWEENEY! SWEET LORD!
